Add your name: Blue Triton Waters — the corporation that bought out Nestlé’s North American bottled water business in 2021 — will take a total of more than 8 billion litres of groundwater from two wells in Ontario over five years.

Permits issued by the Government of Ontario — which were renewed for an additional five years in 2021 — grant Triton enough groundwater to fill 14 billion more plastic bottles. Laid end to end, those bottles would circle the globe 70 times.

This deeply unjust deal is just one among many across Canada that undermine our human right to water, and our global responsibility to reduce single-use plastics.

Sign the pledge today to boycott commercial bottled water.

Anyone heard about this? Is the claim legit?

This is absolutely depressing, I wont be around to see the full effect of this disaster.

Doug Ford is a genius, by selling off Ontario's groundwater, farmers in the Green Belt will foreclose due to the expense. This will give Premiere Douglas even more impetus to sell off the Green Belt to developers. Why have I been using Britta for so long? It's a beautiful plan, damage Southern Ontario permanently and make Marco Muzzo a billionaire.

First you have to search the Ford bbq photos to see who it was who gave him the cash.
Maybe they bought nice wedding presents for his kid...

Sure is. Isn't there an Ontario Waterkeeper website? I personally would look in the CBC archives. Also big trouble in Wisconsin. What do you think Poland Spring is? Lots of "good people" selling off water, a lot of which rightfully belongs to Native Americans/First Nations. Gonna be too woke for a lot of Terbites, though.

Yup, pretty much. A natural resource that we charge far, far, FAR too little for and really shouldn't be really selling it to begin with.

The excuse is that, on average, they're not depleting ground water. The problem with that statement is that, while true, they are depleting local groundwater but overall is ok. Smaller municipalities are have a BIG issue with this. Last I recall, Fergus had to put a stop too (can't find link) it as it was depleting their local supply.

Then you'll have to remind them about Walkerton next.

You must be new. Ontario - via Nestle & others - has been doing this for easily 20 years.
The current deal to sell Ontario's ground water was done on the hush hush in the fall of 2021. Premiere Douglas is emulating Hazel McCallion, he wants to do to Ontario what Hurricane Hazel did to Mississauga.

No..."which were renewed for an additional five years in 2021". Who did the original deal? Doug Ford?

Here's the exact same issue from 2017. They even say, "backroom deal" Doug Ford right?

You're playing this as a Doug Ford thing while previous governments pretty much did the same thing. It's endemic to our governments but you're spinning it as if it's not. As for 'hush hush', please. If the media ignores it (gee COVID was going on then), how would we know otherwise?

So. The current government SHOULD charge a LOT more for the ground water [reasons here] and take steps to reduce the amount taken from local areas for the following reasons [reasons here].

IF this really concerned you, you would focus on the water issue. But you're not. Thus, you really don't care about the ground water loss but merely "bu bu bu Doug Ford". Boring.

JJ I don't understand your logic, are you telling me that Doug Ford is a lillywhite angel of virtue.

Developers paid to attend Ford's stag and doe party. The parcel of land on the southeast corner of Kipling and Kirby is earmarked for development. They want the Neville - Lake Memorial removed, they say it's an eyesore. Let's see if Premiere Ford will accommodate them.

I live in the area, I pass by the memorial when I'm doing my contacts.

"are you telling me that Doug Ford is a lillywhite angel of virtue."

Don't act stupid. I said no such thing. Straw manning, sometimes called lying, about what I said says FAR FAR more about you than it does me.

The fact that you've gone on a rant about other issues (apparently you're a NIMBY that doesn't new houses to be built) only reinforces my initial statement was correct.

Previous water sales to Nestle are incredibly unpopular and stupid.
That makes Doug Ford doing the same thing again even more stupid. Calling Ford out is mandatory, people have been railing about Nestle already for years.

You are correct but as anything, they are not unpopular enough because it continues. Jobs, taxes, markets blah blah. Until local water supplies run out then oops.

people have been railing about Nestle already for years.
..and yet nothing. Municipal level, provincial level. ..and now WOW, morons think "bruh, Doug Ford" invented the issue. 🙄. Noobs. If one cares about the issue, care about the issue and address the issue.

Guelph is the area where Triton really makes bank.

Here is Guelph's statement;
Overall, we are not opposed to the renewal of the permit as it does not interfere with our current water takings.
They obviously argued against the 10 year renewal permit v. 5 year but the local gov't seems pretty good with it. Not unpopular enough. They did the same in 2007, 2011 & 2016. If you think this is a left v. right issue, please, argue that Guelph is a hot bed of deep blue conservatism then.:ROFLMAO:

The water Nestle pumps out, eventually comes back to the province.

Just because activists have failed to get the Nestle contract cancelled doesn't mean we can't criticize Ford for an even more stupid action.
That's a failure in logic.

The water Nestle pumps out, eventually comes back to the province.
But mostly not in the same aquifer.

That water was worth $4 billion, but how much of that do Guelph residents and farmers see?

Much like every single other natural resource extraction, very little. This is obvious in the extreme. Do you have a point to make about water extraction or is this just another red herring?

No, lots of places don't just give away their resources to corporations.
Consider Norway's nationalized oil vs the Alberta giveaway.

Giving away water is extremely foolish now.
