Nestle to stop selling Delissio pizza in Canada

I find frozen pizza to be ok for the days you don't feel like cooking or waiting for delivery. I thought these Delissio had too much dough. They made the rising crust to make them look like delivery. I like more the Dr Oeakter ones. But they're packed with sodium and other processed foods.

Nestlé is winding down its frozen meals and Delissio pizza businesses in Canada, and will soon stop selling them entirely.

The company announced the decision on Wednesday, citing reinvestment strategy as the reason for the exit.

The cuts will help Nestlé focus on categories that "support long-term business growth." These include ice cream, coffee and drinks, confectionery, pet food, infant foods and supplements, health science products, food service, and water.

The complete exit of Delissio, Stouffer's, Lean Cuisine, and Life Cuisine will span over a period of six months.

"Nestlé Canada attributes much of its long-term success to its ability to adapt and evolve within the industry," said the food company’s president and CEO John Carmichael. "We look forward to continuing to offer Canadians great Nestlé products now, and in the future."
The company also said in its press release that it does not have a factory in Canada that’s dedicated to manufacturing its pizza and frozen meal products. Nestlé will work with its Canadian retail partners to execute this exit plan.

If one of your favourite frozen foods is on Nestlé's chopping block, you might want to stock up on it within the next six months.

Overall the pizza business is growing, Domino's is close to rivaling McDonald's in the fast food market. Making pizza at home is relatively easy. Investing in a pizza stone is a wise idea, it retains heat, lowering your electricity bill and it makes incredible roast chicken. The key is allowing the dough to rest properly.

Sometimes companies don't want to do that because they don't want to help their competition.

I've seen massive lumber / pulp mills in Northern Ontario idled by an owner and then sit like ghost towns for years until they are torn down or fall apart despite offers to purchase them from other lumber producers. (I'm looking at you TEMBEC.).

Same with auto plants.

The owners will sell the facilities to be torn down and turned into something completely different that the current owners don't manufacture, or housing say. But that's about it.

I could care less about Delissio but I have been eating Stouffers frozen foods for as long as I can remember. Their mac and cheese is the best. This is shocking to me why wouldn't they look at selling the brand(s)?

It is not just pizza, that is a lot of stuff on the chopping block. I eat LC and Stouffer's sometimes as a quick heat up meal at the hotel. Mainly for Markham as I get a cooked breakfast so I will do a heat meal for dinner. Where as normally I do a heat up breakfast and being cooked meals for dinner with me.

This is going to suck. The pizza I could care less about personally.

Jack Welch... when he took over GE... he was the CEO of CEO's at the time. He reviewed every business they were in. If they were not #1 or 2 in that market the would fix it, sell it, or close it.

GE stopped selling small appliances like irons, and coffee makers, and sold off to the competition. Kept the the workers employed and got them out of a market they could not compete against the Japanese in.

Nestle did not manufacture the food anyway.
They bought it from a third party outside Canada.
There isn’t much profit if you don’t manufacture the product yourself.

I love Delissio's pizza, it's good in a pinch when you don't even want to bother with pick up or delivery. I found the crust to be crisp, and the taste of the pizza to be good for a frozen pizza.

To actually make your own pizza is shockingly expensive: flour is nothing, but yeast, cheese, pizza sauce, pepperoni, and veggies can cost well over the price you'd pay for delivery. Delissio's is like 5 bucks from what I remember.

In a place far, far away
🤢 - did they make pizza or was it dough wrapped in shrink wrap. With them gone maybe new cases of diabetes, High-blood pressure and diarrhea will drop.

I would not feed that crap to a raccoon.
