Anyone here finds the new Night Court show to be as good as the old one? Dan Fielding was certainly one of the funniest and sleaziest scumbag characters back then, but now? Does he even have a sex drive anymore? The new characters don't seem to be anywhere close to the old ones. Do you think so?

If the "new" Dan Fielding is not the sleazebag that he was in the 1980s then a definite NO.....

Saw John Larroquette on Seth Myers last week. Pvr'd the interview cause I was curious to know how he seemed. Seemed pretty good. Very likeable guy. Had an interesting background. Was the voice of the narration or introduction or whatever of the first Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie. Might have done later ones. Don't remember from the interview. Was a friend of Dan Blocker. He's 6'5" tall.

Watched the first two the other night, found it about 10% as funny as the original. I wont bother with it again.

Oh dear. I guess Twitter owns TV now.....

It is the wrong time to resurrect such a funny TV show......

I watched the first two episodes, it's about as funny as recent Simpsons and Family Guy... which is not at all except for maybe a laugh or two.

Rather annoying to see the laugh track go off every time anyone says anything or does anything.
Hello <huge laughter>
That paper is white <huge laughter>
I've been shot <huge laughter>

I'll probably keep watching it for Melssa Rauch's eye candy looks because I am kinda desperate and pathetic that way but otherwise, no.

Aside from Tulsa King [which wasn't actually on TV and only lasted 9 episodes] the last time I watched and kept watching a new show was Young Sheldon and that was 6 seasons ago. It isn't all that great, nowhere near as good as TBBT, 2.5 men or HIMYM but I guess much like Simpsons and Family Guy, inertia. At least it is somewhat interesting.

It's been a month since anything decent dropped from the kdrama world, I used to be able to count on 2 to 4 episodes a week from that source as I've binged watched everything worth watching a while ago.

Night Court benefited from arguably one of the most dominate line ups ever on TV. It had Cheers as a 9pm lead in that stopped anyone from switching over to other 1 hour shows half way through.

It also had a bit of a surreal theme to it with the over the top silly cases with great character actors chewing up scenery.

Add in Dan Felding, a great character foil to the other actors to play off of and that gave it a quirky hit feel. It was different enough from Cheers, Cosby etc to attract its own audience later while keeping enough adults after sending the kids to bed to get the ratings.

In other words right show, right place and time. But unless then get those writers getting a bit crazy(and its so much tougher now to play off racial, sexual, demographic steteotypes which was a key element of the origional) its will be too milque toast to make it.

A woke version of an 80's classic. Imho Night Court was funnier and goofier than either Cheers or Cosby. Apparently audiences are not impressed, it has a 6/10 on IMDB ouch!

In the last episode of the 80's Night Court, Dan Fielding left the city permanently to pursue Christine, played by Markie Post, who also left the city permanently. Where is the follow-up to that? If they bring back Richard Moll (whom I think is the only other survivor from the previous cast) to reprise Bull Shannon, then maybe they have a chance for further seasons.

Here's the deal:

These are the aspects of the original Night Court which cannot be included in the new one:

- Jokes about easy women
- Jokes about women being objects
- Jokes about picking up women
- Jokes about being tall and stupid (a la Bull Shannon)
- Jokes about climbing the greasy pole (competition at work)
- Jokes about brown-nosing
- Jokes about violence
- Jokes about rednecks (i.e. Wheelers)
- Jokes about midgets
- Jokes about racial differences
- Jokes about old people (a la Selma Diamond)
- Jokes about prostitutes
- Jokes about homeless people
- Jokes about domestic disturbances
- Jokes about marriage and divorce
- Jokes about blind people (a la Elaine Boosler)
- Jokes about death
- Likely a lot more.....

The only parts that can be left in are the moral values but they will have no comedic balance with the sleaziness, so the show will look like a Hallmark card. Bad.....I am amazed that Larroquette even bothered to read the script.....

Marsha Warfield (Roz) is still alive. So is Karen Austin, who played the original court clerk in Season 1.

Money is money.
Never watched one episode of the first series. Just seemed so cheesy and lame. Plus never liked Harry Anderson. Comedian/magician .lame.
