We had testing for entry into Canada for the longest time and a whole bunch of people were being cry babies about it.

Yeah but it is the choice the 90% have made. It should not be forced on them. It is their life, not for you to protect.
The choice they made affects the healthcare system. So we all pay for that dumb choice. That is the problem. Understood?

dude you cannot get rid of a virus which is similar to flu and colds let it go
Due to high vaccination rates and other measures, the effects of Covid are currently not as serious as when the virus first emerged. But just as I agree with you we cannot eliminate the virus, so we have no idea what new variants are emerging from China that could overcome the defenses we have built. However, if your claim is that Covid was similar to the flu from the get go despite nearly 7 million Covid deaths so far, then please go and see a doctor urgently to have your brain examined.

The average age of deaths are 84. Most deaths are from pre existing conditions. The bulgaria pathology society said nobody died of covid

Should we condemn China for not imposing lockdowns which the protests we support doesn't want?

There are different flu variants and RSVs that are as fatal as covid...if you look at the numbers....Influenza H1N1 drawfs Covid...

I am at a loss as to why some people insist on comparing Covid to a flu when it is clearly not a flu at all. Covid and flu are two different viruses, just as polio and flu are two different viruses. Would you compare polio's and flu's death rates for any reason?

It is absolutely ridiculous to even mention Covid and flu in the same sentence now, nearly two years after Covid-19 hit North America. It is time to stop doing this, as it is not convincing anyone anymore.....

What an ignorant post this is...Of course Polio is different...COVID and Flu are spread the same way, identical symptoms and identical implications which is Pneumonia. The difference is the strain of virus and origin. The whole family was diagnosed with Influenza early December and guess what? Doctor sent us home and told us to take the meds that was prescribed when we were diagnosed with Covid last summer.

I dont think we pay for that choice. They do, and even amongst the anti-vax, only a minority do. People get sick and the healthcare system takes care of those sick people. Regardless its part of living in a free society to accept other people's choices whether or not we agree with it.

Sure.
It was interesting to note that polio's death rate from infection in an unvaccinated population is similar to COVID-19's.

But other than that point of interest, there isn't much point in the comparison.

I don't think that's entirely true.
If want governments to take COVID as seriously as the flu going forward. In both the US and Canada, we have infrastructure committed to monitoring the flu, keeping track of how bad it is, making sure there is a public push to get vaccinated, emergency resources at the ready for if it spike unexpectedly or a given wave is worse than anticipated, and procedures for isolating and treating hard hit communities. The government dedicates a significant number of resources to make it that the general public doesn't have to do much or even worry much about the flu.

COVID should have at least that much money and focus going forward.

We are paying for it. The ICU became overwhelmed with non vaccinated covid cases blocking other diseases. And health care workers quit in droves creating staff shortages and putting a burden on the entire health care system.

Canada should ban all travelers from entering Canada that have been to China in the last 2 months.
But we won't put in any restrictions because the Federal Government is afraid of China.

They need to expand ICU capacity then, recruit more people etc. The solution regardless isn't to force people to get vaccines whether they want to or not.

I dont think banning is necessary. We could ask travellers from China to present a negative test 72 hours before travel and on arrival testing - the way they did for everyone else when restrictions were in place.

You claimed we are not paying for it. I proved otherwise. Now you think expanding ICU is like flipping a switch and recruiting healthcare workers is like hiring Amazon warehouse workers. You are ignorant.

We can't take that risk. Gotta put your people first at this stage.
We are if we test people. There is also no reason to fear COVID. More than 85% of the population is vaccinated. Banning travel is a ridiculous overreaction. We are already fucked economically because of all these bullshit restrictions. No more.
