Canada, USA, and Mexico will be in 2024 COPA America, I just hope Argentina and Brazil field their A squads. This kind of competition is good for Canada.

MLS clubs should also compete in the Copa Libertadores. I would certainly go see TFC test their mettle against Flamengo, Boca Juniors.....

Argentina would not have won the WC without Cristian Romero, he was their best defender. He's another one of these Argies who developed his skills in Italy, playing four seasons in Genoa before signing with Tottenham. Genoa were relegated without him.

Argentina blew their lead for being loose. Di Maria did a great job, but was pulled. The French seemed they couldn't get hold of the ball the first period and then the Argentinians became cocky with their passing around and the French snapped out of it. Its like the French were holding back in the first period and then woke up. Very exciting game. Happy for Messi. Giroud was fuming when he was pulled, but he didn't do much in the field, they needed someone more active.
First half not first period. It is half in soccer not period lol

The 1994 WC Final was held at a sold out Rose Bowl.

It looks like LA will host the Final again but where? Early indication is SoFi Stadium appears to have the inside track, also in the running is Giants Stadium in East Rutherford and Dallas Market Stadium, home of the Cowboys.

Benzema is retiring from international football. He tweeted "I put in the work and made some mistakes to be where I am today. I am proud of myself. I wrote my legacy but ours is ending today".

On the other hand, Deschamps was asked if he will resign and he said that he would take a decision in January. Both Macron and Le Graet(president of the French football federation) publicly asked him to stay. In 10 years as the French coach, he won 2 finals(World cup 2018, Nations League 2020) and lost 2(Euro 2016 and yesterday's). It would be interesting to see what will happen to both him and Zidane if he chooses to stay.

Here’s some more history on Argentina.

Today, Argentina is considered the whitest country in South America, with just 0.365 percent of the populationidentifying as Afro-Argentine during the 2010 census. Yet less than 200 years ago in 1800, black people accounted for more than one-third of the country—69,000 out of a population of 187,000. What happened?

the “covert genocide” perpetrated by Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, president of Argentina from 1868–1874, which played a key role in decimating the Afro-Argentine population.

Genocide watch has Argentina at state 3 discrimination and stage 10 denial due to white washing their history of ethnic cleansing both its black and indigenous population

"At first l wanted my son to play for Cameroon but, someone at the Cameroon Football Federation charged a sum of money that l didn't have to make him play.
The French didn't charge anything" - Kylian Mbappe's father.

Messi!

We probably will see Leo Messi in MLS next year. I will make sure to be in the stand if he ever comes to Montreal or Toronto.

I have been watching him since his debut in Barcelona. For me he was Maradona but with a stable lifestyle (Messi met a girl at 14 year old and he's still with her, and their kid...). For a guy of his stature we can say he's very humble.

His control of the ball and dribbling is unique. It's almost like the balls follows him. His constant change of pace has always drive other player crazy. While other player are looking down Messi is looking up and the ball is following.

He has the absolute intelligence of play making, combine with a unique technique and a devotion to practice and training. Which made him the absolute best player ever.

Now he's 35 year old. Yesterday he was responsible for 2 of France's 3 goals. He lost possession in key moment where he should have continued what he is best at.. passing the ball. Without these 2 mistakes Argentina would have won before PK. It proves that like all of us he getting older and prone to make mistake when victory is near. He is still a human ;)

I am a short guy like my 2 son. Yesterday we shared some tears seeing this short guy Messi prove to all he is the absolute best soccer player ever.

France would have won if the second penalty was given, Split Beaver didn't touch the ball when he took down Thuram.

Wow that video clip is depressing CC, an abominable champion for an abominable host. Did the three journalists die from complications of MERS?

Watched the last 20 minutes of regulation time and then the rest. Soccer isn't my favourite.

Have to say what I did see was fantastic.

Hate to be a goalie on those penalty kicks....

Full marks to Argentina for a hard fought win and dodging that come back by France.
my suggestion is dont use what you saw as a benchmark for future games. most finals are not this exciting because teams must play conservative. of course it will not take away from the fact that soccer is the greatest sport.

It seems this final made everyone forget the 2018 final, a 4-2 epic won by France against Croatia,
but you're right most finals in recent memory have been played like chess games.

i do agree that in terms of number of goals it was quite good. but the result was pretty much pre-ordained. best game of that world cup was imo portugal vs spain group stage.

of course to see real high quality soccer there is always the premier league...too bad haaland comes from a country that doesn't make the world cup often, perhaps in 2026 with the expansion we will see him shine.

Ya too bad many great players haven't been seen playing in the WC either due to injury (Mane, Benzema)
or because they play for weak squads (Haaland, Salah, and not to forget the Georgian dribbling machine Kvaratskhelia)

Will he play for Real Madrid during Champions league? Or that goes only for the French national team?

I love watching Napoli to see Kvaratskhelia.
