The risks involved are not symmetrical. Sex workers face a whole raft of dangers: Hidden recordings, stalking, stealthing, rape, robbery, battery, murder. There are few men that fully appreciates having to constantly regulate and negotiate the behaviour of others for their safety. It's only rational for SWs to take measures to protect themselves.
There are also some risk involved for clients. There are bad actors. Escorts can act unpredictably. But at the end of the day, I can do some digging and find escorts where I am reasonably sure that they have done hundreds, if not thousands, of transactions. These are working class people out making a living, not people out committing serious crimes like blackmail.
As for deposits, the truth is that clientele are unreliable and there are all kinds of assholes out yanking chains, requiring a deposit is a tactical decision. It's all too common for SWs to spend time getting ready, heading out to their incall, only for the client to not show up. Would you tour to another part of the country if you expected half your bookings to cancel or not show up?
There are still all kinds of options available to clients, including SWs and businesses that take on risk by not vetting people or asking for deposits. Yet entitled clients never seem to stop whining anyway.
