It is good to buy an EV as a secondary vehicle
while keeping your ICE vehicle for primary driving.
Drive you EV for events like climate strike.

Electric vehicles have a serious problem if the battery becomes damaged:

This Tesla in a junkyard spontaneously combusted in a junkyard weeks after it was in an accident:

ICE cars catch on fire every day all around the world. You are diving a machine that creates an explosion inside a pressurized cylinder. Oh, it also has a tank of very volatile liquid attached. Imagine proposing such a vehicle to the safety authorities today? They'd tell you no chance. A motorcycle is even worse. A tank of explosive and inflammable liquid contained between your legs and right against your torso? And you are worried about an EV?

If you read the 2nd article the vehicle caught fire weeks after it was in an accident. They had to bury the vehicle in a pit and fill it with water because the vehicle kept reigniting. A damaged battery could catch fire some time after the damage happened. If this was in your garage it could be a catastrophe. Plus the fact that it took 12,000 gallons of water (which is 50 tons of water) to put out the fire in the first article seems a bit much.

I also wouldn't drive a motorcycle due to safety concerns.

Electric vehicles are pretty useless unless you never leave your city. Not very good if you do lots of highway driving. At least with an ICE if you run out of gas it's not a far tow to a gas station, or CAA can bring you some gas to get to a station. Who knows how far a tow you will need to a charging station.
Also this doesn't apply here in Ontario, after the last big hurricane in Florida many EV spontaneously caught fire because the batteries were exposed to salt water. Salt water causes corrosion to the electrics and poof, up goes the car in flames. This can happen at any time. So might be a concern for east coasters.

ALL vehicles after a hurricane or being flooded are pretty much junk and have to be replaced. Floodwater will pretty much destroy all vehicle computers and interior components over time.

Got an EV last summer and love it. Got a very nice lease deal. Better off leasing it because there is a good chance the next EV you lease at the lend of this current lease will have an even better battery with more range per charge as EV batteries are only getting better. Plus with leasing you never have to worry about having to buy a new battery.

With an EV there is no, gas, oil changes, antifreeze, exhaust system, emissions, etc., to worry about. Really your only required maintenance is rotating the tires every 7500 miles. Oh and with 'regen braking' being used all the time, vehicle regular brakes will last far longer than usual since the regular vehicle brakes are very seldom used anymore. Regen braking is phenomenal and adds ~50 miles per charge.

Haven't bought a drop of gasoline since last July and love it! Used to pay ~150/month on gas. Now pay ~50/month to charge it per month in my garage. Happy to tell those greedy Texans, Arabs and greedy Oil Robber Barons you all can go drink your over priced oil! Don't need it anymore!

Oh my fucking god…. Just get you’re full body condom out now before you leave the house…

Why would I ever fly? Planes have a record of crashing…

Actually, so do cars! Why would anyone drive at all? The odds are so much greater of a car crash then you Tesla battery spontaneously burning! Its crazy!

Have to walk I guess…but oh… cars can hit pedestrians. A long litany of that happening as well.

This is what happens when hinge your point of view, on one example.

This is true now but was also true. of gas cars before the gas supply chain was created. as to the dangers this generstion is xafer thanesrly gen gas cars but its still a gamble if they will get good enough

Oh boy here we go.
I am referring to EV's that weren't flooded out and were turned to junk. I am talking about EV's that weren't flooded out and just had minor exposure to salt water.
Regular maintenance is part of buying any vehicle, much like buying gas. If that scares you, why buy a car?
Sorry to say, but unless your car is being charged by the sun, those greedy Texans, Arabs and Western Canadians are still getting your money with natural gas to power power plants.

But he’s not spending money at the pump while we ICE vehicle drivers are getting rinsed at the pumps by corporations who are posting record profits. You sound very ignorant simping for oil corporations.

Truth hurts doesn't it.
Then get rid of your car if you think it's so bad.
Oil companies are in business to make money. Much like grocery stores, hardware stores, gyms and every other business.

Um. So I'm considering one as well but interesting question. It will come at the same time I'm planning to start my 6 month expat out of country retirement (hopefully!). Is there anything on how the cars are after sitting for six months?

I have both an EV and ICE and I will say that ICE definetly has some advantages over EV especially in colder climates like Canada. EV's are great and very conveniant if your traveling less then 200km in any type of weather, anything over that I think is where ICE has an advantage in terms of convenience and time saved. EVs loose a lot of their expected range in colder temperatures and when driving highway speeds but their great for short around town type drives. There is advantages and disadvantages to both which is why I always advise if your thinking of buying an EV make sure you also have an ICE backup.

Yes paying for premium gas in a Lexus does hurt. It hurts my wallet that’s for sure. I’d rather save that money and use it on seeing the many ladies available. That’s why I’m not sucking off oil companies who are rinsing us at the pump.

Also I live in the GTA. I’m not getting rid of my car lol. That’s why an EV will be my next vehicle.

And what about the salt here during the winter?
