It is beyond me how companies like Boston pizza, pizza pizza and other huge chains that serve mediocre food, in Toronto. There is SO much good local food in every shape and variety. I may not love this city but goddamn I do love the food.

I don't mind paying more. Just serve a damn satisfying meal. In my area, most places suck. I found one decent Italian and one decent middle eastern place. They're good food but small portions. The remaining options are just cardboard. For example, I tried a Thai place. It was pure cardboard. They didn't use any oils or sauces. I was basically eating plain rice with Thai seasoning. I finished 20%, the rest wouldn't go down, so I threw it out. 17 bucks.

I remember going to Thai express 15 years ago, it was so satisfying. None in my area. Same goes with Domino's, Mama Pizza, Pigiolo, and the remaining cardboard Pizza places. They're shy to use enough Oil or Sauces.

Places that DO serve good food, those places then serve a small portion. Which is fine if that's how they make money. But how am I suppose to know small portion ahead of ordering. If I could visualize it, then I would pay for 2 meals, eat 1, and some from 2nd, with leftovers.

That's one of my point/rants. When you go abroad, the food is there in front of you, you can visualize it before picking what and how much you want. Impossible to be unsatisfied. This order off the menu Toronto style, sit, wait, and be surprised by portion size is complete bullshit.
You have mentioned "small portion" a few times. How do you compare your portion to a small portion ?
Is it like comparing a 28 oz steak to an 8 oz steak ?

Eaton center is not typical fast food. There's a lot of variety. By short and skimpy, I meant all the crap places to eat that are either cardboard food (low calorie, they don't use fats/oils, pizza pizza for example); or the food is good but the portion is too small for one to be FED. When this happens, people usually run off pretty fast to the nearest tim hortons to make up for the skimpyness. If they wait too long, they would lose weight, unintentionally. That's not fun.
I actually don't mind smaller portions as long as it's good quality food. I don't have the biggest appetite, but do appreciate having leftovers if it is a bigger meal. I'll have to check out the Eaton centre, I.had no idea there were more interesting options. Have you got any particular favorites?

Small portion is anything less than a plate/tray of food. Say you goto A&W order burger and fries. These places I got burned at would cut the fries portion so it's 80% of a standard portion. Most humans if not all have a standard meal size capacity. Think airplane food. They did their research and the tray they serve satisfies most if not all travellers. That's what I call a meal. A tray of food that's good (meaning energy rich, probably 800 calories). Once you finish, you can go on with your day or chill / watch a movie, have a conversation with a friend/relax. YOU DON'T GO RUNNING AFTER TO THE NEAREST Tim Hortons to get even more food because the place you went to for a meal fucked you over. That meal was not a true meal.

I usually try the Asian places. But at the Eaton Center Food court I find most places serve a proper meal. It's just the random places I've tried in my area and got burned at....no sleep and horrible mood the next day

When I travel overseas, eating out is fun. They have the food laid out, like in Germany or Italy, even many UK/US places, you can visualize it, and order how much you want and are rarely disappointed.
Germany and food is like Sahara and water

God Damn German breakfasts I miss those so bad. You start your day to a big ass meal that's available everywhere. Imagine if Sunset Grill was available at every corner. But instead, we have Timmy and Starbucks which are just snacks. So in Germany, the whole day is super chill and quiet/cosy because you had a 1600 calorie breakfast. Feels like you're on a beach but you're not.

Wait - you think airplane food portions are satisfying and then say a restaurant isn't enough food?

Yes, I have never been served crap food on an airplane, ever. I've been on probably 90 flights or more in my life. That's economy. I'm not rich.

Some resturants great, some not. That was my complaint.

Go out to lunch or dinner, almost always, the server fucks up portion size, or maybe, it's their standard shrinkflation portion size, and not enough food to feed.

I walk out pretty hangry and unsure what to do. Any tips how ppl avoid this? Order 2 meals, eat 1, and a bit of 2nd and then have leftovers?

Also, why are all the Pizza chains in this city cardboard food? I finally found a decent non chain pizza place, had a bit, it was SOOOO GOOD, ate the served portion, 4 slices, 8", but guess what, wrong size! I needed 6 slices. Since I couldn't see the food before ordering, I got fucked again, and I started sweating profusely (body fat loss) and subsequently electrocuted in the brain. Not fun.

Whether it's pizza slices or rice/chicken, pasta, whatever, it's right there in front of you, in the quantity you desire. You pick your own portion.
Much of the world is food insecure right now. I'm sure they feel your pain...

I think it's because you're eating the wrong type of food. The portions in Canada are pretty generous.

If you're not having enough fiber and just stuff like pizza, your insulin levels are spiking to control your blood sugar. When the insulin suddenly drops, you feel hungry again.

Try stir fried veggies with brown rice and teriyaki sauce. You will stop feeling hungry when you eat better food.

Middle Eastern, Japanese, and Chinese places have good portions and healthier food.

Canadian pizza chains are just ketchup on cardboard. I found a non chain Italian place that's working out for me these days. The key is Extra virgin olive oil. Without fats/oil/sauce, the pizza is useless. The worst is pizza pizza and Blake pizza. The latter I wanted to puke out but couldn't find someone to kick me in the stomach. Every single person eating there seemed miserable. People are usually smiling, giggling /socializing when they eat but not at Blake pizza. Funeral eatery.

Home cooked meals!
Sounds boring and dated but if you have a basic knowledge around the kitchen, it's the only way to go unless you want real fine dining
or authentic ethnic, i.e Asian, M.E.
I'd rather bring a cheese sandwich from home than most $15-$20 in and out places.

dude, if you're eating an 8" pizza in one sitting and you think that's less than one serving and need 2 more slices, the problem is you being used to overeating.

The fact that you later mention that a portion for you is a plate/tray full tells me you definitely have an overeating issue and I should know because I used to eat like a dump truck. Actually had to get a gastric band to curb the issue.

But whatever floats your boat.

As far as breakfast goes Cora usually loads your plate up. Pizza I usually go for Mamma's or Gino's though to be honest even the Mamma's here is a poor imitation of the one in Montreal.

Thanks for the breakfast and pizza tips but I'm not over eating. I just never ever snack so I like 3 eat proper meals. Biggest proof is unintentional weight loss, hunger, stress and no sleep. I'm 128 lbs I used to be 160 then I cut it down to 145 intentionally for aesthetics, after that I said it's time to stop, but kept losing due to eating at wrong places. Past couple days I've been hunting hard for decent places make sure I bring home enough food. I hate cooking so always eat out.
