Answer: Steve Garvey
Steve Garvey wrote on his young daughter's birthday card, (mid 70's): "Happy birthday, Steve Garvey". I'm not sure if he included his uniform number. I hate his guts, mostly because he always hit into double plays when I had him on my Strat-O-Matic team.

Garvey was not well liked by his teammates, because of his goody 2 shoes image and was always talking to the media, even his hot wife, Cindy had an aloof image to the other player's wives. They were the Ken and Barbie of baseball.

I'm guessing...Jay Johnstone, but I peeked, so I know this is wrong.

I consider it fair dinkum to confirm a hunch guess by looking up the answer before posting, provided that a different answer is not posted, with prejudice.

Just for interest, I recently watched a documentary called Yankees-Dodgers: an uncivil war. It's about the Yankee-Dodger rivalry during the 1977 and 1978 seasons. WOW!!!!!! Very well done. I was 11 years old again while watching it. Highly recommended.

thinking back to the 80s as highest scoring era … and guys that were not hit in this category due to low scoring eras or longer career.

So my first guess is Kent Nilsson. He scored plenty of points with the Flames and didn’t play that long.
