Hey bros,

just got a ticket in the york region area for using a cell during a red light.

this was my first offense but he said he would give me the benefit of the doubt. Then he proceeded to give me a ticket. Not sure why he said that.

also he highly urged me to go with option 3 which is to head to court.

any suggestions and tips on next steps and or similar experiences?

If he said he would give you the benefit of the doubt and asked you to go to court. Means he won’t show up, and you’ll get off. You still have to waste your time at court though

Buy an earpiece for your cell. That way you can talk on your cell all you want because you're not holding it. I use mine, pulled over twice and let go, once they saw I wasn't holding the cell & using an earpiece.

better yet buy a modern car equipped with Apple carplay and you can not only talk but legally text as you drive

I replaced the radio in my truck with one that had bluetooth and phone support for less than 200.

The Cops make extra money going to court, they get a bunch of people with tickets going in at the same time. I doubt they're going to ask the cop to show up only for one ticket. (yours) I think the cop means that you can go and beg the judge and they'll reduce the money or cut your points. You can get one of those Gps holders that you stick on the windshield for your cell.

I believe that driving and calling via bluetooth or apple carplay at the same time is way less dangerous than, for example, driving and talking to one's wife while she is in the car.
Bluetooth and carplay are designed to be used in that exact way and come with zero issues, while wives are designed to drill holes in our heads.

A simple vent clip with a spring hold, or magnet… then use speaker phone.

I've seen cars not move when the light turns green because drivers are distracted with their phones.
Could we please not encourage texting and driving.

The OP said he was using his cell.
He didn't say how he was using it.
Many good suggestions for bluetooth, AppleCarPlay, AndroidAuto, etc.
But what if he was checking out reviews on terb so he could decide where to go.
We need a hands free app for that.
