This is just a small example of why the country is divided. Trudeau should have met with the provincial leaders and come to a consensus on creating a holiday. It would be fairly simple to send out an email blast or have an on line meeting with everyone to discuss.

Instead he gives a gift to the federal workers. So much for a leader of the people.

I am sure there are many people who would love the day off and could not give two shits about the queen. My guess is this would be in the high majority.

This also sets a precedent or expectation for future situations.
Justin doesn't have the right to force the Provincial leaders to adopt a day off, he executed on the only option he had in such a short time. He left it to the provinces to decide for themselves as they have done without getting into a tit for tat, this is why Dougy and Justin have become buds. IF you have an issue as to why you did not get a day off, I suggest you write a nasty letter or make a nasty phone call to Dougy.

As usual it's only Federal and Federal regulated employees who get the holiday because God knows they are all caught up with issuing passports, SIN etc. Poor fellas have been working so hard. And they so loved the Queen.

Federal employees received:
Sept. 5th off- Labour Day
Sept. 19th off- Queen Elizabeth’s funeral
Sept. 30th off- National Day of Truth and Reconciliation
Oct. 10th- Thanksgiving Day
4 paid days off in a span of 35 days. Nice work if you can get it.
What so special about Federal employees, they make this country worse, did nothing good at all. Trudeau the bum just gives him extra paid day off.

King's Day. There is a new king on the scene
I have an idea for that.

Forget a holiday for a dead Queen, the statutory holidays should be Nov 11 and Sept 2 (end of WWII). Royals should not take precedent over those who sacrificed their lives to fight despotism.

As for Victoria Day, it should be changed to King Numbnuts III Day, instead of poppies they should issue whoopee cushions.

Turn up the volume!

Our industry is uncompetitive enough as it is. Don't need another day off.
We already have 9 statutory holidays in Ontario, 15 vacation days, 3 paid sick days and 2 paid bereavement days. That's practically 6 full weeks. And with the labor situation right now, there are a whole lot of extra unpaid days being taken right now too.

Shouldn't be a federal holiday either. Those bums have their cushions fluffed enough as is.

Gotta be honest, man. Are a lot of people sad the old lady died? Sure. Are they distraught to point of needing a day off to grieve? Pu-lease. Do they all want to sit on the couch in their jammies watching the funeral on TV? Sure, why not? Particularly if they can be paid to do so by their employer.

A bigger joke, I have not heard.

There should be 2 holidays, maybe 3. Canada day, Memorial day and maybe New Years, maybe Thanksgiving in so far that it is a traditional family gathering time [more of a family day than family day]

If companies want to close down on say Christmas or All saints day or feast of the hungry ghost or in the case of trucking Vaisakhi because most people will be grumpy working those days fine.
Rest of the days off should be added to the two weeks to be taken off as you please. Most people don't give a shit about most holidays anyways.

We should get at least a provincial week off if Montreal or Toronto ever win the Stanley cup, one province to celebrate, the other to engage in gnashing of teeth and rendering of hair but that will never happen again so...

When I had my own company, the employees wanted time off for all kind of holidays. A Jewish guy wanted all Jewish and Christian days off, somebody else wanted Martin Luther King's day off.

I told them they could take either May 1 or the Queens birthday, but not both.

I miss my good friend Prem, he was a fun guy to be around.

Mooj in 40 Year Old Virgin is almost similar to him. Whenever Diwali rolled around, he'd ask for at least two days off - claiming he was a devout Hindu. He would suck back all meat pizzas and used colourful language like a stevedore. I told him he would have to use his sick days and he told me to fangula.

I agree that he cannot force the provincial leaders to adopt a day off, however it was not his only option. There were other options:

* Drop the idea of even having a day off.
* Offer federal employees the opportunity to take a vacation day, and if they have used their 2022 allotment, then be allowed to dip into 2023.

I would feel the same even if a conservative government was in power.

I think it is silly to even think of shutting down a country for a day over this type of thing.

What a crock. Trudeau gives a paid holiday to well paid civil "servants" who enjoy virtually life time job security (just try to fire one) and superior benefits, including an indexed pension. Nothing too good when it is paid for by the taxpayer!!
