Treat it as a health crisis. Get addicts over the hump of social judgment. Get them into dr supervised programs to help get them clean access to the drugs and a plan on reducing their use. They can even have drugs now to calm the withdrawal symptoms.

I’ve seen opioid use steal years from people. The abuse is way larger than junkies in the bushes: it’s construction guys, firemen, cops, crane operators, basically people who have hurt themselves with physical labour jobs (my perspective) where they use just to get thru the day. It changes their moods, makes them hard to be around and they start loathing themselves because “they aren’t tough enough to kick the habit with willpower.” Those drugs were created by pharmaceutical companies and people smarter than us to make it hard to get off them.

Remove the social stigma, get people into dr supervised plans and help them leave it behind, you will lose less people and less families breaking up.

Compassion goes a long way.

Problem:

So… Our Country (along with many others) has a huge problem with Opioid Addiction, Heroin, and Homelessness. I am tired of seeing needles in parking lots and parks daily. Tired of the crackheads living in behind bushes, and in parks. Tired of building being over run by pimps and pushers. Tired of young girls going missing. Tired of my car getting broken into and cops telling there is nothing they can do. Even if they caught the guy, he’d be in and out.

But mostly…. I am tired of addicts abusing the system. Young adults who would rather ride the system and “Hustle” get paid by ODSP and selling drugs than enter work force.

Solution?:

What’s the answer? Because, a lot people are involved. Injection sites? More detox centres? More jail cells? Nothing at all because fuck it? Do we make drug companies pay a cost? Do we start charging physicians for over prescribing narcotics? Should it be tracked so dr’s are accountable?

If you give a kid a 30 day jail sentence for petty theft, will he learn a lesson? Or make new buddies in jail? Are we prepared to pay those jail costs?

The Fallout:

Cutting a generation off social assistance with incredible repercussions. Crime. Human trafficking. It will get bad. It seems to be a very pervasive attitude the jobs are for suckers. Easier to sell drugs, or women, (or be realtor) than work for living. (Yeah… I said that)

Personally, I was told years ago that the Chinese government ensures the West is flooded with drugs like Fentanyl as a way to destabilize our society. Can’t have a functioning work force or army if all the kids are hooked. Obviously, I personally have no proof of this… But it made sense to me, as the West coast seemed to get flooded with the shit first.

Do we collectively help our brothers and sisters get their lives back in order… or de we say “fuck it… not my problem”.
is this sarcasm or are you really this inhumane? Anyone that has to go after poor people living in 2022 on a cheque thats 1100 a month trying to survive and rent a 1 bedroom in Ontario would be a complete idiot if they didn't expect you to have a side hustle to survive the ones on welfare or disability that didn't side hustle are now no longer with us the system failed them it paid them way under the poverty level not everyone has family to lend a helping hand drug addicts or alcoholics are hustlers by nature there addiction taught them survival skills how to hustle for there next fix or drink or gamble to keep it going the ones that are mentally ill are mostly living on the streets with no idea how they will sleep tonight. But ya lets go after the poor and vulnerable and not be concerned about the federal government handing out corporate welfare to companies like Air Canada during the Pandemic or 1000 other businesses that the government siuupplimented while they still report earnings in the billions per year but you dont sleep well at night knowing a disabled person can't afford a 1 bedroom can't afford a car can't afford food and can barely afford a phone ya there a huge threat to society ......perhapds that is why your cars are broken into because he may have a bad tooth that needs a filling and selling your phone left in the car may make or break his living abilities . what a stupid fuckin thread.

Side hustle can also be walking dogs, mowing lawns , painting ect.
If you choose to exploit minors, sell to addicts or Steal , it only lasts so long before you fall even further down.
Stealing a phone to sell to fix your tooth is great until you break into the wrong guys car and he kicks all your fucking teeth out of your head.

Great advice that I agree with....of course the society like ours, that can't handle a thousand extra flu cases, would be hard pressed(impossible) to treat tens of thousands of addicted fellow Canadians. I'm afraid it's the tent enactments or death for vast majority of them.

Lots of good points. Try to split your writing into paragraphs. One big block of text is hard to read.
I rarely read more than her first few sentences any more. here, she is so busy talking about rehabilitation, while at the same time she has had countless suggestions to write in paragraphs, but is still too stubborn to change herself.

I agree

It’s great we pay such high taxes so the govt can funnel it into pet projects rather than helping those struggling.

Her posts/threads have one constant theme. It's all the fault of big corporations. You know, the ones that create employment, goods and services and pay taxes to bigger government(s).

A few major points:

1) I think that we should try to stop drugs use/trafficking while still recognizing that it WILL happen. Just like prostitution or crime in general.

2) I(at least) recognize that once these people are addicted, very few will have the willpower to get off of them.

WILLPOWER! LOL. I presume everyone advocating for will power is not obese, never lose their tempers, spends all the time with their kids that they are supposed to, doesn't smoke or drink too much, exercises like they should, has accomplished everything they want in life - in short, have perfect willpower themselves.

It reminds me of obese TV evangelists or even just self-righteous religious people talking sternly about adultery and sexual immorality. I always wish I was there and could say, "Ah excuse me, gluttony is also a sin, if you expect people to be able to control their sexual impulses, why can't you control your eating (or other) impulses? Same thing."

3) I am tending towards the view to supply people with the stuff. You cut out (hopefully) the criminal element, ensure quality, monitor usage, and cut out all the property crime and turning to the sex trade out of desperation for funds, associated with addiction.

It seems to me that it would make financial sense. Your shit gets stolen, then gets sold for pennies on the dollar. Then you, the victim, has to both financially pay for replacement stuff AND suffer the psychological consequences of being victimized, which can be quite traumatic.

Agreed. Everything you said is 100% true. Could not agree more…

The only thing I don’t understand is…. Why you think it’s the poor I am going after? Or the vulnerable…. Or the addicts themselves. My point in general is the complete lack of leadership on the issue. The bad ideas being put forward to fix are frustrating to watch. And yes… it’s incredibly frustrating (to me) to see people on the streets. Shooting up in public. Fucking heart breaking. Yet, the comments I see here are “we should be jailing them…” or, “they did this to themselves.”

So…. Got any ideas? I’m a little hesitant here as I get accused of “throwing money at a problem” as an ideology, and sadly, all my solutions require an “investment”.

Truthfully…. I know there is a solution. There always is.

Mandatory detox, life sentence for relapse, death sentence for traffickers.

Mandatory detox. Death if you relapse, death if you traffic.

So… I had a good friend who’s mom was a sex worker. Her grandfather started sexually abusing her when she was 3… went on for years. Some of the guys mom brought home over the years decided to have a little fun with her too. She grew up out West, and the Chinese gangs got a hold of her, and had her working as a prostitute for them at age 14 and an underage stripper.

Her mom was eventually murdered by Robert Picton. (She maintains it was really the other brother, and the Hells Angels and members of the OPP running the rape farm).

Guess what she is today. An addict. I’m not sure giving her one shot at detox, and then life in jail when she relapses is the answer…. And what do we tell her 4 children when she is gone? Nope. There has to be a better answer.

Ultimately it is your friends responsibility to pull herself out of her situation. I was speaking hyperbolically when I suggested death for relapse (but quite serious about mandatory detox and killing traffickers). However, society cannot keep sinking increasing limited resources into unproductive individuals.

I’m on this escort board with the understanding that whatever transaction aspires is agreed upon by consulting adults.
I’m very realistic, knew a dog walker that quite her corporate job to make 200 + cash a day . Loved dogs and they loved her .
I also used to get my hair cut from a ex addict that cleaned up and went on to hair stylist school .
