Growing Number of Ontario Residents Plan to Move Out of Province

They fled the province and where did they go ? Actually, I think they are still here, some nurses have quit, taken early retirement or gone into private nursing. All provinces are reporting shortage, in fact so is the US. The Ontario government is fast tracking the licensing of the foreign trained nurses out of dire necessity.
Quebec and Alberta are reporting severe nursing shortages. The Alberta “advantage “ is gone and the province is experiencing an exodus of young Albertans.
The pandemic is heralding a major game changer. Pre- pandemic the Trudeau government was poised to bring in a record amount of immigrants and some have already entered primarily college and university educated Indians, many IT engineers among them and Philipino caregivers amd medical technicians. Foreign students graduating from government colleges and universities have been offered PR leading to citizenship.
Industry is clamouring for immigration to fill many job vacancies.
There are several countries that are offering tax holidays for you to move there if you meet their definition of high net worth. I do know a number of Americans have been looking into moving to Hungary. Canadians and Americans are moving to places like Costa Rica, Belize and Mexico in rather large numbers. If I was retired I'd be moving from Canada in a heartbeat. Or at the very least spending the winters in the South.

The nursing shortage and other ER staffing shortages are more down to burnout and shit working conditions. All of the gals I went to high school with and college that went into nursing all look they have been steam rolled and have aged terribly from pre-pandemic to post-pandemic. Those 60 to 80 hour work weeks week-in, week-out have taken a toll. Cancelled vacations etc... don't help either and the 10's of thousands in over-time eventually stop being an attraction too.

The attrition rate in the 6 to 15 year mark is also pretty insane. That's the pool of nurses you expect to move into leadership roles in a unit and their leaving in droves, which is pushing more pressure on the 15+ group increasing the burnout/early retirement in that group. I really sorry for the nurses with less than 5 years experience too. They just aren't going to get the mentoring and other knowledge transfer they need to be successful and I don't see many from that group sticking around long-term.
No doubt there is burnout and poor working conditions. That's what happens when you fire 10-15% of the already short staff. Then couple in repeated covid19 infections and quarantines from the existing staff and its just compounded.

Those are third world countries which might be pleasant places to retire and are very economical. Unfortunately when those retired seniors require extensive health care, they tend to move back to Canada. There are very few ex-patriot Canadians who give up their Canadian citizenship to spend their final years in a third world country with different healthcare resources and priorities.

I haven't been but apparently Costa Rica has a very good health care system which is relatively inexpensive.

I disagree. Many countries where you call "third world" actually have much better health care systems, hospitals, doctors and nurses than your rich countries such as Canada and USA. Many people from rich countries who already live in those countries typically get their treatment in those countries without traveling back to Canada and USA. Also, many people from rich countries actually travel to those countries for their illness's treatments because the treatments are not available or too expensive in Canada and USA.

Yes, this is true..actually. Also, some people go to these countries to have their elective surgeries earlier at much cheaper price. Its like you go to US, get the full diagnosed with the med charts and stuffs, then travel to other countries..and get the treatment.

without getting seriously ill, they won’t do stress or nuclear tests in Canada. Most likely they won’t do angio without getting the first attack. But if you diagnose your coronary arteries in US and you know how much blockage you got before the attack, you could do angioplasty or bypass before you even get your attack. This is the common one I can think of now. I’m sure there are plenty other similar procedures. Well, you can get anything done in US at very expensive price.

Humboldt Broncos crash survivor returns home after Thailand spinal surgery

" The surgery can cost up to $100,000, but isn’t covered by public health care or insurance, because it has not been approved by Health Canada. The Straschnitzkis say they’re frustrated the treatment isn’t available here."

The 20 years old boy was paralyzed from chest down. Doctors in Thailand did the spinal surgery for him and "injected stem cells above and below his spinal injury.".

This boy is now walking again with his dad.

I don’t think much of the stem treatment are popular here yet. And collecting stems from umbilical cord is not norm practice. You need to pay privately and they store for you and your offsprings only.

This is very much an exception and not a normal procedure

The ratio of Canadians leaving to immigration applications to Canada is probably 1:100,000
Still life is becoming more difficult or is soon to become more difficult for many in Canada but with the generous social services , Canada is a much better place than many other places on the planet.

This what I found by searching on the internet. There are many many normal procedures and treatments that many people go to get them done in those countries too.

I just gave you some ideas. It will be difficult for you to comprehend if you have yet lived in those countries for long period of time such as six months or more and go through health care treatments in those countries.

I'll see you in 2026 when we miss that 41.5% target. (though, hopefully we get a fiscally responsible government before that and it actually happens!)
^^^^^^^^^
Might not meet the target exactly but it will be close.

"hopefully we get a fiscally responsible government"

And can you tell me what party could fill this role???

100% DISAGREE with this statement, when you put it in the context of looking at the big picture.

If you have $$$ it doesn't matter if you're in the USA or "third world" you can get the service you want. I've been to Mexico many, many, many times... do you think it's equitable service for everyone like we have here in Canada???

Canadian Public Debt

I don't think this chart will look a lot better, when it includes 2021 and 2022.
^^^^^^^^^^
Great graph... but I really don't get your point. We've just experienced Covid that fucked up finances and in the last federal budget the government was returning to fiscal responsibility. Is it perfect... not even close but finances are going in the right direction.

I agree with you but your quotation is not me, it is another poster that I quoted.
