Hypothetical Mafia question - Does the mafia forgive and forget, does not care over time, or do they always do payback?

I know a guy that testified against the mafia and ruined one of their money making schemes where they were skimming money from an industry. He was involved but when they caught up with him he turned witness for the prosecution. Corrupt government officials and industry people that inflated cost were prosecuted but no mafia members were hauled in on the dragnet. Still, he killed a cash cow that supplied the mafia with hundreds of millions. He was under police protection for years, but now he seems to be on his own. This guy has CCTV cameras on every side of his house, I know of several times when SWAT rolled up on his home when he called in a false alarm.

Do any of you know of incidents where the mafia has forgave and forgot or do they have to do payback to show their dominance.

There is no crying in baseball and no forgiveness in the mafia. Revenge is a dish best served cold, even ice cold. Revenge for a violation can literally wait decades but they will never lose their desire to even the score.

The mafia is first, and primarily motivated by money. Then whatever floats their boat at the moment. But you are correct, there is no statute of limitations if you wrong the mafia. They dont forget until enough who remember the wrong are dead.

Sure I am sure the burning need for the vengeance goes down over time. I doubt they are actively looking for him now. If he walks by one of them and they remember him, they might start the chase, but otherwise, meh.
It all goes down to business and trying to track someone down after all these years just isn't worth the effort. Also there are actual Mafia members who broke oath and got away with it, I'd guess those would be higher up the list.

According to the movies and TV shows I watch, the key thing here is to make an example of snitches and people who otherwise cross the criminal organizations they belong to, whether they be the Mafia or even just street gangs. The main principle is to keep respect for the criminal organization, and show an example that will definitely discourage others from making the same mistakes.

If he asks you to come over for dinner, I'd pass on the invitation.

the mafia always gets revenge.

They are not known to "forgive and forget " .Especially when someone snitches on them.
