How about random calls from someone speaking Chinese, few people I know and myself have been getting a ton of those lately. I put any unknown number on block now. When I see a rejected call, I'll look it up and if it's not a number that's legitimate or from someone I know, I don't bother after that.

I think the stringing them along is the best policy. Don't let them know you are annoyed, act like its fun, you love it.

Tell them to call back ASAP because its fun for you.

They won't. Time is money for them.

Yes, I get some of those also. Always a woman's voice speaking very fast. I asked a Chinese friend to translate for me. He said sometime about reporting to the Chinese Embassy because I am in deep goo goo.

I've gotten those.

When my phone rings, I never answer it if I do not recognize the number, let it go to voice mail.

I made the mistake of uploading a resume to the Indeed job board once. Didn’t even occur to me that’s a treasure trove of info for data collectors…

I get calls from people pretending to be from bank fraud prevention department saying several suspicious charges have been made to my card and they need verification.
I hang up right away and using blocking service from phone company to block them.

Most annoying calls are from the duct cleaning companies. I hang up right away and block them but they use different phone numbers to call all the time.

I press 1 and get talking to them, to string them along a bit. .

Does this mean I can stop paying taxes?
Can you please compromise my wife's SIN card too then?

It gets them way off their script.
The often hang up on me, which is a great switcharoo
Love it. Get these calls several time throughout the year, usually closer to income tax filing time for this particular scam. I also enjoy stringing them along until they usually hang up. These guys are relentless, however, I guess there are enough individuals that do get scammed which is why they are still around. The amount of scams out there right now is crazy.

I lay on a bad phony eastern European accent and say 'ducks are ok, but geese are shitting all over my lawn. What can you do about my geese?'.
They get real confused real fast after that.

The other slant is say 'ducts are ok, but my chimney needs cleaning, can they perform that service for me?"
(I really do have a wood burning fire place we regularly use in the winter , for its ambiance but I have a chimney sweep I trust for that servicing.)
That line flummoxes them as well.

I then wish them well in their job search with an aim to find a better job than the one they are presently performing.
Maybe one that adds more value to the economy.
Like the kind that ask you 'Want fries with that?'.

a few things...
a) i get messages in chinese cause of my phone is made in china.
b) the joke is great cause everyone has actually put information / photo's of themselves on facebook.. even date of birth.
c) now we have linkedin so everyone has a true name / a real history of themselves dates etc etc

must i go on?
now that i am job f hunting i get emails from clowns who have a cdn number but the cell number is from another country (voip).. seems like there are a lot of hr talent recruiters hiring from overseas. even the hiring managers admit that hr people are clueless.
so now these scammers who cant speak english without an accent have all this detail on you (if you have posted your resume online) ... so if i google your name and linkedin says you work for a bank.. well now the chances just get higher ...(hope you get the drift)

Marketing calls come from overseas... so our information is sold overseas by default unless you say so... the magic word or phrase given to me years ago is "Please take me off your list" they are then required by law to remove you. unless they are from india..

if you google youtube for phone scams you will find a lot of information...

Cold calls from folks claiming to be doing a survey.

Initially, I try to be helpful but then the questions venture into:
1) Where do you live?
2) Do you own or rent?
3) What is your income level?
4) Where do you bank?
5) Are you single or married?
6) Are you male, female, trans, none of the above?

I love these calls. I follow through.
When I get to talk to the people there, I scream non stop from the top of lungs ‘Fuck You’
Hoping to make their life miserable so that they quit..,
If all of us do this, the operators will get depressed and they quit…
I like to tell the women how ugly they are and that they will never get a boyfriend or if they do, they will be cheated on. I tell the guys how ugly their mothers are and that my only credit card use was to pay for many men to have sex with their mother. Some get really pissed off.

But they are criminal literally trying to steal from me and many others. So I like to mentally wear them down. if we all do the same, maybe they will quit and never want to come to our country.

Well, the thing is they are not in our country. They are calling from India, mostly.

Picked up the phone and heard this.

"Your S.I.N. has been compromised."
i had this happen to me 2 months ago ...i'll admit i wasn't sure if it was real or not,so i called the government and told them what happened after waiting an hour in que. They reassured me that my SIN was fine. They also said they don't call people about these issues. I admit i did feel foolish calling them afterwards but it was a new scheme i haven't heard of so I wanted to be double sure about it. When it happened my heart skipped a beat ...then i thought well if this is identity theft good luck in paying my debts off lol

Whats happening now is every single day i'm getting text messages with naming my bank and saying the transfer is ready, or the e transfer needs to be accepted , or your refund is ready. or we've credited your bank account . they write stuff like press Y or press OK then theres a link. I just feel bad for people with disabilities or older generation seniors that arent computer literate to end up falling forthese scams. Is there any way i can stop these text messages from coming into myphone?

There is no way to stop it that I know of…. They mostly spoof phone numbers, which change daily, so blocking is no good.

yup ; leave it to India for some form of scam. they already have posts in xhamster so i had to stop viewing that too
to the rest of the people who read this make sure you let your parents know (if they are alive) to expect this and remind them now one had the right to ask you for you sin number or even your dob especially if they are calling you.

What I find discouraging is that in consideration of how sophisticated technology is today, why can't the phone companies come up with a way to stop these calls? I guess if there's no financial incentive for them, the only way it will happen is if the government mandates it. Perhaps we should pester our MPs to get this done.

I find the work ones scarier. Sometimes I get emails of supposed "invoices" that need payment, and a link to make the payment. Pretty simple to avoid, but when it starts coming from email addresses linked to my actual suppliers....
I never make payments through such links, but I can easily see someone thinking it's legit when they're getting an email from an established contact with a payment link in it.

Then there is the president of the company asking you to do him a solid on a Saturday......."I'm with clients and need your help , can you get me some I tunes cards " or whatever. The spearfishing went so far ast to set up email acounts that ooked legit, ie, johnsmith-leadershipteam@companyname.com.
It seems they found an innocous pdf file of a company directory of names and phone numbers somewhere on line. They craft a bunch of emails to everyone and see who bites. The emails appealed to your ego as the boss "really needed your help and I cant get a hold of anyone".
Two people came in on Monday with a receipts for a few hundered dollars in expenses.
When I first got it, I looked at the emaill addresss and it was odd, but beleivable if you didnt examine it too closely.
I had some fun back and forth, with them untile they got tired of me.

When CRA calls, you should immediately speak to someone.
Tell them you just got out of prison last month, and how the hell can you owe taxes if you were in jail, and you will come downtown to the office and ......
