If you understand the American justice system (and likely the Canadian system), this was an extraneous and self-indulgent statement from a judge.

You want Clarence Thomas to recuse himself because his wife (not himself) is a political partisan who was protesting the election, but it's okay for a Clinton-appointed judge to offer unofficial opinions in a political case from the bench?

The thing about Justice is that we have accept things we don't like and not allow ourselves to accept bias no matter how strongly we feel.

I thought it would best that he recuse himself from the Jan. 6 allegation, but I am not a legal expert. While I think judges and their spouses can have their political views, Ginni Thomas probably took her activism too far. However, I'm not sure she did anything illegal other than protest too loud and too much.

Getting back to the point above, it would appear judges of various political perspectives are becoming too politically active. I'm not trying to be derisive, but when I heard this news of this judge's opinion I was thinking "why should anyone care?" Perhaps judges have always held their political biases and we are now seeing them reported more.

All this is not to say that Trump will be charged with something. It might fall far short of what many people want.
