Damn! It's tax return time again.

So, which tax software are you using? Also, do all tax software require Windows 7 or higher?

Following. I have an accountant for my own business, but I also know someone whose income/tax situation is very simple (couple part time jobs, no investments), and I know that even free software could do the job.

Been using Turbo Tax for many, many years back to when it was originally called Quick Tax.
Our taxes are not complicated and the program is user friendly and is loaded with tips and suggestions based on your input. I always get the standard edition which allows 8 returns and is Netfile Cetified. and have never run into any issues. This years edition requires windows 8.1 or windows 10. Windows 7 or 8 is not supported.

I started using Studiotax back in 2013 when it was free. I am still using it even though it started charging a fee in 2021 (for 2020 returns). It still takes Windows 7.

I use the online one from WealthSimple. It offers a pay what you want model (including $0.00).

Cheers

I had to call the CRA in Ottawa to get a paper return. None available at the Post Office. They said not enough demand.

Turbo Tax for personal. It even connects to your CRA account to download your T slips. Anybody can use it.

Future Tax T2 for my own business/corporate (T2) but you need to know what you're doing in the field of accounting

It's great to see all the Tslips in one place but CRA is not always fast posting this stuff.

I heard there is at least one tax software that works only with Win 8.1 and higher.

Yeah I used TurboTax to download my various T4 slips, including T4P and T4OAS in very early March, and shortly after Netfiled electronically. Got my NOA from My CRA, immediately, and my refund about 10 days later via direct deposit.

Then I received in the mail my paper T4A slip that showed my special $500 from the government that they gave all us old codgers over 75 in 2021. That was not in the information in my CRA file when I did that original download. So I had to re-file my return with that additional $500 income. Easy to do online with TurboTax Netfile "re-file", but I had to pay back a bit over $200.

So if you're over 75 and received that special Covid $500, be sure to include it in your income. I believe it was stated in Box 205 on the separate T4A slip...

I've used Studio Tax for years and initially it was free. Now there is a charge to use it, but I don't mind paying it.

It is handy to get a CRA account. This means I can populate my tax return with all the information slips that CRA has for me from the Studio Tax software. You still have to do charitable contributions and medical expenses yourself when you fill out your return.

I'm getting back $500.

I use a commercial software called Profile. But prior to that I used Quick Tax for several years which is now Turbo Tax. Always found that a pretty intuitive platform and would recommend it for anyone just preparing their or their family's returns. I'm pretty sure you have to be on Windows 10 or higher.

Congratulations, That feeling when you get a refund actually has a name. Intaxication: the feeling of elation when receiving a refund that lasts only until you realize that it is your own money that they are giving you.

How long were you on hold for to speak to a CRA rep? because you can order it online, very quick and easy. that's what I did.

I've been using ufile for close to a decade. Does everything I need, usually costs $20 per return which is cheaper than most, but they usually send out deals around Christmas time where you can get 40% off that.
$12 isn't bad at all.

Wait wasn't long at all. Maybe because many others were busy online instead of using the telephone.
