Well, if you are going to go from drugs, I guess Colombia is as good a place as anywhere. Bit of a Keith Moon syndrome going on there. As in , what are your supposedly close friends doing to intervene on you behalf? I guess the rock star life ain't all it's cracked up to be. No pun intended. This isn't Kansas anymore.
Forensic experts are understood to have discovered his heart weighed 'at least 600 grams' following his death at a luxury hotel in Colombian capital Bogota on Friday.

I guess we don’t know for sure what the immediate cause of death was. Clearly he had a heart abnormality (that he’d commented on before in interviews). Maybe this, combined with drug use led to his death, or maybe his heart would’ve killed him anyway.
I love the foos, I think they are the best band in rock today, and one of the best of all time. A lot of that success, especially live is due to the clear love and friendship and on stage chemistry between Grohl and Hawkins. If Grohl could’ve helped, I’m pretty sure he would have done anything possible to do so, having followed them for a long time, and seen Dave talk about Taylor, he was as close as a brother.
As you know, Taylor OD’d and nearly died in 2001. Looking back it’s a bit telling his responses when he’s been asked about that. He’s been open to talking about it, to a certain degree. He described it as being a consequence of “going too far” and partying too hard, living the rockstar life. He saw it as a temporary lapse in judgement, not a sign of a problem. Subsequently whenever he’d been asked about ongoing drug use, whether he was now clean or not, he’d either deflect the question, or say he’s got a system, or a handle on it, and then talk about how he gets his thrills from mountain biking or something. Sadly I think he convinced himself that he could handle partying, and did not have a drug problem, and suspect he convinced those around him this was tru as well. Some people with substance use issues aren’t “addicted” in the common use of the word. They don’t need to be drunk or high all the time. They may go days or weeks without using. They convince themselves and others that they use, but are smart about it, don’t depend on it so they don’t have a problem, hey, everyone likes to party, no? But when they do, they have a hard time knowing when to stop. I’m sure we all know people who “can’t handle their alcohol “. They are nice normal people, who aren’t chronic drunks, but when they drink, they can’t have 4,5,6… they need 10 etc. They are abusive And get into fights, or pass out. I wonder if this was not Taylor.
Of course all this is speculative. But sadly he seems like he may have got a wake up call 21 years ago, and didn’t take heed. It’s very sad for his friends and family, but also for music, because he and Dave were one of the great combos that made the band fun to watch not just because of the music but also to see their friendship and how much they enjoyed doing what they love together. Dave must be totally wrecked.
