It just baffles my mind that this man has allowed thousands of people living below the poverty level. My neighbour is living on a cheque of 1100 he said and he is paying 900 to rent a room and share a house. He wants a 1` bedroom with privacy but he cannot afford a 1 bedroom in the city. He is dependent on hospital visits and he is struggling physically and mentally living in a house where young students live that have loud parties and bring all kinds of strange people in the house. He cannot afford to move out of these conditions because he was granted one moving fee and his next one will be approved in a few years he said. So he is left with 200 dollars a month when his phone he says cost him 70 so thats 130$ hes left with for the month for food and essentials.

How can people turn a blind eye like Doug Ford that simply can't help that they are disabled ....isnt against international human rights what hes doing by not increasing the rates of disability?

It sounds like your neighbour would be far better off renting in a much smaller community that has a hospital but not a college or university. There are thousands of such cities and towns across Canada. Why is he still living in Toronto?

I don't think your understanding this so ill be more clear. He is disabled physically and mentally. He receives a disability cheque for 1100$. He found a few places like rooming houses that were 500 to 600 a month but his roommates were into drugs and stealing from him so he was forced to move. He was told NOT to move into a rooming house because of his past experiences of being mistreated and abused in them. So the only opportunity he had was to rent in a house with working people and not people home all day for his mental health to improve. He moved in the house and was told these students and working class people were very good tenants and they didn't want to rent to a disabled person but they did anyway. He then moved in and soon found out these nursing students and an office manager who live there are very much heavy drinkers and are extremely loud every evening.

What has happened in Ontario is this ......the going price for a room is now between 700 to 1100 with a shared kitchen bathroom. the cheapest one bedroom I could find him was 1500 that was in a semi safe neighbourhood.

Doug ford approves 1100 to disabled ...90 percent of them are forced to use food bank. and he cant even afford the 25 in cab fees to get the food at food bank so I went and picked up his food with him.

I understood you the first time. The prices you are quoting are Toronto prices. The social problems you are referring to are Toronto problems. Why doesn't he move to a cheaper place outside of Toronto (that has a hospital)?

These prices im quoting you are in Barrie. I found him a 1050 1 bedroom in Wasaga Beach but living with 50 dollars left and him not having money for a phone seems rather nuts dont you think?

ive searched Bradford Wasaga Collingwood newmarket Alliston Innisfil orillia rama, and about 12 other towns the cheapest rent for one bedroom in any small town was 1050 but no hospital access and no accessibility for him to get around too......

Are you seriously not understanding that 1100 is not feasible to live on?

When you have a small income, you need to find the cheapest place possible to live. That's not in Toronto, and it isn't in Barrie either. Google "cheapest rent in Canada.

Here's a few results:

There are many more. In terms of big cities with top tier hospitals, looks like St. John's, Quebec City, and Saskatoon are good bets. If your neighbour only needs more commonly available health care, there are many, many more options in smaller centers.

The solution to the need for affordable housing for those with low incomes is not: a) build low cost housing in the most expensive communities, or b) pay higher social benefits so that people can afford the highest prices. The solution is to utilize low cost housing that already exists all across Canada, and to build additional low cost housing in those low cost communities, as required.

Exactly thanks for proving my point NOBODY on DISABILITY can survive on this BELOW the POVERTY 1100. with current rent increases across Ontario. Your no better than Doug Ford.

It’s not only people like your friend. It’s every One. Your average working class
Doug Ford fails on minimum wage too according to the Ontario Living Wage Network (OLWN), people residing in Toronto need to make $22.08 per hour, which is the most in Ontario, to afford the basics
but yes unless your on disability trying to survive own 1100 then come talk to me .

What I proved is that you'd rather resist good advice on what your neighbour can do to improve his life so you can blame Doug Ford/the government for his situation instead. I'm not a big fan of Doug Ford, but I'm not a big fan of wasting money either. Anyone looking for help needs to first fully explore what they can do to help themselves, and we, as a society, need to seriously rethink our approach to social housing and social assistance to make it CHEAPER and MORE EFFECTIVE (for all of society, not just those receiving benefits and assistance), rather than perpetually more costly as well as perpetually ineffective. It is time to admit that low income people who rely on public assistance should not be living in our medium and large sized cities where the cost of living is most expensive.

Next thing you know your going to say ship them all to an island...seclude them from there families and friends because they were BORN with a disability. Sir with all due respect its your type of thinking for unfortunate ones that causes there suffering. Instead of giving license sticker renewals Ford should have RAISED the disability rates. And dont tell me this nonsense that you cant handle the cost Ford gave out billions to BUSINESSES this year that weren't even QUALIFIED for COVID relief and said folks dont worry about paying back the billion. Obviously the conservatives are lavish with spending when it comes to the well off citizens and dont seem to understand the concept of people in dire straights that were either born with a disability or received a disability later on in life. When you see people living in the streets most times its because each cheque they get when needing anything that is essential causes them to be flat out broke. This is another reason crime is rising because these people are desperate just for survival purposes alone.

Considering the previous 15 years the Liberals also did nothing I'd say its a systemic problem across party lines. Personally I think they should roll this in with increasing LTD homes spaces to creare better dedicated spaces to seeing to needs.

But laying blame when no party has addressed this doesn't solve anything.

You are correct Butler ....Doug Ford inherited this issue from the Liberalsbut he has made it MUCH WORSE. There are 2.6 million people in Ontario with disabilities and 395,000 are receiving payment from the government. Now Ford in 2018 was supposed to increase disability by 3% so he decided to halve that and that was the total increase. Inflation has risen to 5.2 % since then and there has been zero increase in disability since 2018. Then Doug Ford announced that he wants to ABOLISH disability and put DISABLED people on a "fit for work "program. Doug Ford is Privatizing Low-Income Employment Services. An American Firm Linked to Trump’s Welfare Cuts Wants the Contract.
“One need only look to the United States for important lessons, where Maximus has a record not only of mistreating its workers, but also serious performance problems.”

“When Kansas decided to privatize its health administration services, many of the state’s most vulnerable residents–particularly seniors and individuals with disabilities–suffered serious harms due to Maximus’ performance failures,” Bass explained.

“Maximus performed so poorly, the state ultimately brought many of the services back in-house only a few years after Maximus took them over.”
doug-ford-is-privatizing-low-income-employment-services-an-american-firm-linked-to-trumps-welfare-cuts-wants-the-contract

Then Doug Ford announced he wants to ABOLISH Disability and he was told that would be political suicide.

The way this program is set up is that my neighbour can make up to 200 extra a month to keep the disability benefits-so that means his income could be 1300 a month but hes not able to work to receive and extra 200 a month on disability.

Now DISABILITY does allow family or friends to gift them 10k a year. But here's the problem MOST people I talk to DO NOT HAVE FAMILY to help gift them extra money infact most of the people that have MENTAL ILLNESS was caused by there family to begin with as a child.

So please tell me Butler why Doug Ford Shouldn't be blamed for this FAILING disability program?

I didn't say he wasn't part of the problem. But as no party has addressed this I don't see it as criteria for my vote. Show me where the other parties are makes specific plans to help this. Then feel free to use it as an election issue.

Which is the real reason for this post, not your friend

How can I possibly think that you would not vote for Ford when a half a million people will be left behind to suffer or die. The key word is DISABLED they have either mental illness or developmentally delayed in daily life. Life is hard enough without having something that hinders your everyday life. You simply either want these people to survive or you dont . Because the death rates for the poor has risen dramatically.

The reason for this post is to show you how much damage Doug Ford is doing and GOING TO BE DOING to the disabled if he wins again.I have videos of Doug ford making fun of disabled people. He simply finds them less human like people did many years ago. But isn't that what the conservatives do they go backwards with abortion backwards with sex education.

I don't want the disabled to die anymore than than I dont want people like you to die.I dont know how the conservatives can sweep this under the rug and do harmful privatization that was never done by any other party.

So you didn't see when I said a solution to get them better help?

Please stop the hyperbole. And please stop with abortion and other settled arguments. We aren't the USA.

He looked into privatization 4 years ago. Realized it was a bad idea. Never made it past that. So really it's a non argument. Trudeau looked into taxing capital gains on principle residences. Realized it would kill his polling, abandoned it. Should Every homeower assume its coming anyway and vote accordingly?

Show me posts criticizing the Liberals provincially for perpetuating the policy still in place. Until then you and I know its just a timed post to an upcoming election.

And btw I didn't vote for Ford. In fact I refused to vote for anyone and did so officially at the ballot box. However his pandemic response coupled with the poor leadership in the other two parties has earned it at this point. The budget will be the next test.
