Personally, I hate siting in outdoor patios. In Toronto, there is also the risk of getting caught in the middle of a gunfight and/or a van killer. I think some of the victims of the "Danforth Shooter" and the "Incel Van Killer" were sitting on patios.

"Two Women Killed in Restaurant Patio Crash in DC – NBC4 Washington D.C. police say two women were killed and another six were injured when a driver crashed into an outdoor restaurant patio in Chevy Chase. Police say the driver..."

Agree.
Never understood the allure of outdoor patios. If I'm at a hotel or resort that's fine because they are usually over looking the ocean.. But sitting on the street with the only protection being plastic pylons....no thanks. Not to mention sucking in exhaust fumes and having to listen to some asshole with his stereo cranked up in the car.

Don't forget woman in Montreal died - I think 10 years ago - when a concrete slab fell of a building. She insisted in sitting by her favorite area and has some folks moved.

People watching while outdoors. In an urban environment its this, stay stuck in your apartment, or sit in a crowded park filled with families, animals and such, with no alcohol allowed.

I used to love smaller Patios on Queen St. Lots of girlies walking by.

Patios are great but not adjacent to a busy street.

You will live longer than me. I don't check the escape routes out of a restaurant or theatre despite the carnage a sick fiend with a machine gun could cause. And while I may not frequent an outdoor patio roadside to the 401, I love an open patio in the spring beside a residential street. The breeze, the sounds of life surrounding me - it is a welcome relief from winter and COVID. The sound of kids, cars, laughing, talking ... it is a melody of the city sounds I have missed.

Okay the view might factor in ...

It's a balance but I think living life is more important than living in fear of losing it.

I think the point was about Patio RESTAURANT on busy streets. Home and not so busy streets fine or a small town with patio fine as long it is not the main drag street road for diesel spewing vehicles.

Six or four months ago I remember Queen and Barthurst a patio on the ROAD. WTF?

When I think of most patios in Toronto I think of napkins blowing around, wobbly tables and chairs that the staff don't bother to level, feeling that wearing
sunglasses is rude to the person across from me even in squinty sunlight situations, wondering why TTC busses and most delivery trucks have to be as
loud as a goddam avalanche.....
