Ya I gotta ask to - there are questions here not answered in the article. I think one thing that is there that hurt her was she called other people to the house before she called 911. Never do that!

I didn’t see any evidence in the article about her side of the story. Not to say there isn’t one or what she said is true or not but there would have to be evidence that he was trying to rape her as well as evidence that the only thing she could do was kill him. She could have slashed at him and ran for example.

Also - there are non-lethal forms for protection that all sex workers should use. That knife could have easily been used to kill her instead. Never bring a weapon that someone else can use. And it prevents deaths like this. Assault and run is the name of our game. Not stand and fight to the death.

We don’t have the same laws here in Canada regarding self defence like they do in the US. If someone breaks into your home, you scare them by coming home and they start to run and you block their way to detain and end up harming them, you are at fault. I see this as no different.

I feel for sex workers and I feel for this woman but law is law and I don’t personally just on the bandwagon of because I’m a sex worker, I have to support all sex workers the same.

This statement by the SexWorker tells me she lost it and did in fact do something she should not have done.

Audette also made an emotional apology during the trial that included offering her deepest sympathies to the Laprise family.

“I regret this every day of my existence. I regret what has happened. I understand the severity of my actions. They haunt me day and night,” she said. “I take full responsibility for everything that has happened, and I am truly and deeply sorry.”

It was a plea deal. She was charged with Murder 1 - which suggests that the cops thought that it was a premeditated hit on the guy. Then it became a manslaughter deal based on excessive violence used in self-defence. Sounds like there was a lot more going on there than came out at the hearing.

Suggestion in one article that there were pre existing prior to murder mental health issues at play that have clouded the whole issue.

Rule#1: Watch out for these plea deal Lawyers. Always seek out a good defender.

Her Lawyer doesn't even have a proper website
I blame fucking Stephen Harper for his sick ban on prostitution with legislation that needlessly put SP's in additional risk and situations that endangers lives. Sadly, as a gutless politician, Trudeau isn't going to do anything to correct the situation.

What does that ban have to do with them arguing and her ultimately stabbing him with a hunting knife?

Can't pin everything on Harper.

There was an agreed statement of facts. So that is her side of the story.

The issue of her being a sex worker is s diversionary tactic, a smokescreen. There was a non-threatening guy who wouldn't leave so she killed him.

If you think she was innocent, then you have to be consistent.

You own a business of any kind and a customer won't leave you are allowed to kill them. That is what you are saying is OK.

The article does suggest that he was in the process of raping her, when he was stabbed: “The stepmother said Audette told her she declined to have sex with Laprise and then stabbed him when he wouldn’t stop, the Crown said.”

Is it because I woman that you seem to automatically think I’m on “her side”? Or am I reading your post wrong and you are just showing you agree? I honestly can’t tell because it really seems like the former.

The article states that she was suggesting that. What I find most strange is that she was being charged with murder 1, which makes me wonder if we have all the facts. Is bringing a knife to a business transaction considered premeditation to commit murder?

When I use the phrase "if you think...." it is identical to "If one thinks" or "If somebody thinks" or "If people think", not you personally.

Like prohibition in the US, as soon as you make it illegal - both the customer and the SP can find themselves in situations of both physical and financial harm. Yes, it is easy to blame Harper - he was a piece of shit. He removed European dancers simply by applying a moral based restriction on a legal activity.

Legalized brothels could protect both and hopefully remove/limit the criminal (pimps) from the formula. These are gutless politicians who use moral grandstanding to remove the rights of adults to engage in mutual consent activities.

I was thinking the same thing. I really wish there was more detail in the article. She stabbed him 100 times? Were there any bruises or marks or signs of strangulation on her body? What was her side of the story? What a terribly written article actually.
