A russian platoon surrendered voluntarily, saying they did not want to kill the Ukranians.

I think some of the reason Russia is advancing so slowly is because the troops know what they are doing is wrong. Many have ties to Ukraine, whether it be family or friends. They just don't want to do this and have blood on their hands.

Ukrainian Ambassador to the U.S. Oksana Markarova said on Thursday that a platoon of Russian soldiers surrendered to the Ukrainian military, saying they "didn't know that they were brought to Ukraine to kill Ukrainians."
At a press briefing, Markarova said, "Just before I came here, we got information from our chief commander that one of the platoons of the 74th motorized brigade from Kemerovo Oblast surrendered."
“They didn't know that they were brought to Ukraine to kill Ukrainians. They thought they were doing something else there," she added.

The bloodlines run deep.

I wish it was true, but I have my doubts. It may be that this particular platoon had a number of soldiers of Ukrainian background. Who knows. I recall when the Civil War in the former Yugoslavia flared up 20 some odd years ago. The media was going on about huge numbers of Yugoslav soldiers surrendering the Slovenians. CNN made a lot of hay about that. Well, my Serbian friends all said the same thing, "those guys are all speaking perfect Slovenian".

The best course of action right now is if a Russian puts a bullet right into Putin's head. Best for everyone, best for the world.

I think Putin wants to reconstitute the Soviet Union. He marches right through Ukraine and then possibly right into Poland and or the Baltic States. I think he believes that the Americans and the Brits would not have the balls to try to stop him. (And he might be right.)

^^^ I can't believe that guy actually drifted a tank.

Though it's probably more of a Light Armoured Vehicle. But still.

Given the signals he's getting from the West, he could probably make it through France to the English Chanel.

^^^ Reminds me of 1938.

The allies gave Hitler Czechoslovakia in 38. Even Hitler couldn't believe it.

Then in mid 1939 Hitler decided to try and grab Poland and the Brits put their foot down and here we go.

Now here we 84 years later and it looks like the West is going to donate Ukraine to the Russians.

Does history repeat itself?

History tends to repeat itself. War is in our DNA. We've been fighting wars since the beginning of time, every culture on Earth.

Putin will not stop. He will get Ukraine, and after that he will want more. It's only a matter of time. At some point the West will put their foot down. Then it will lead to war. Nuclear war, sadly. Someone put a bullet in Putin's head already.

I do not believe he will challenge NATO.

I am not surprised Poland opened its border to Ukrainian refugees. The bloodlines have intermingled over the centuries. (My first girl/woman is/was Polish-Ukrainian.) The Poles have not forgotten the "Katyn Massacre" and the Ukes have not forgotten the Soviet caused famines.

People never want to go to war. They have to be tricked and fooled by propaganda.

That has become impossible today in the first world countries with internet and other means of communications. The Vietnam war did not stop because too many Vietnamese were killed, but because the drafted boys came back maimed or in body bags. The same may very well happen in Russia.

Countries now have use professional, paid soldiers to do the dirty work.

Lets hope the Russians don't take a page out of the Chinese book at Tien Amen square - those soldiers would not fire upon their fellow Beijing types. Then the Chinese government brought in a rural unit and they had no hesitation killing the Beijing-ites...if Putin gets some deep bum-fuck Siberian units to the front...watch out. Civilian slaughter.

It's gong to get nastier

Interesting, the clip from CNN has a expert guest on who also confirms that the Russians are questioning why the hell they're killing their brothers. Let's hope that they wake up and don't go through with it. Also, he said that if the Ukranians continue to frustrate Putin, he is most likely going to resort to chemical or nuclear weapons to win at all costs. If he does that, let's hope the world stops this madman.
