Question: Anybody experienced one or more animals falling inside your chimney?

Spoke to an animal control guy. He said likely raccoon(s) (birthing season). Common problem in Toronto.
I have a lock top damper on my wood burning fireplace chimney and a varmint cap on the hot water heater B vent.
Neighbors across the street from in laws about 20 years ago went south to holiday property after christmas and closed the house in town up.
Came back in April to find a squirrel had come down the fireplace chimney, got around the top of firebox plate damper, and then proceeded to tear the house apart trying to get out.
Needed new windows and drywall in main floor kitchen and living/dining, all new curtains, rugs, furniture. The squirrel survived on the dry goods pantry and shot out the door as soon as they came home.
