2 years? This is so sad. No family, no friends, the neibours didn't notice? The mailman? Who was paying the bills?

The body of a 70-year-old woman has been found in her house in northern Italy, two years after her death.
Marinella Beretta lived alone near Lake Como in Lombardy. Her decomposed body was discovered on Friday by the Como fire brigade following complaints that a tree had fallen in her garden as a result of overgrown vegetation, Como City Hall press officer Francesca Manfredi confirmed to CNN on Wednesday.

Beretta's body was found sitting in a chair in the living room, CNN affiliate SkyTg24 reported on Monday.

Manfredi told CNN that the cause of Beretta's death is unknown, and the examiner has established that she died sometime toward the end of 2019, based on the extent of decomposition.
No relatives have yet come forward, Manfredi said, adding that police are investigating whether she had any surviving family.

Beretta's body remains at the morgue, and a funeral date has not yet been set, Manfredi added.
Como Mayor Mario Landriscina has invited the town's residents to attend Beretta's funeral. He told Italian press on Tuesday that the local government would take care of the funeral arrangements.
"I will try to be there and I invite the city to be present," Landriscina said, adding: "This is the moment to be together, and even if this woman had no relatives, we could become her relatives."

He said Beretta was not on the list for assistance from local social services.
On Facebook, Elena Bonetti, Italy's minister for family and equal opportunities, mourned Beretta's solitary death.

"What happened to Marinella Beretta in Como, the forgotten loneliness, hurts our consciences," she said. "Remembering her life is the duty of a community that wants to remain united."
Bonetti added: "Taking care of each other is the experience of families, institutions, of our being citizens. No one should be alone."

I can see that very easily happening to me 20 years from now. My bills are paid for via automatic withdrawal and I doubt the post man gives a fuck if I don't collect my mail, it's one of those box thingies. Well if I put a stop on junk mail, I'd get next to no mail.
I live in a house so the stank won't be an issue.

Also why I don't get a cat. It would break my heart to abandon a cat who doesn't quite know the difference between death and being abandoned and having it starve or die of thirst after I die... no brah. Kill that noise.

I remember in my early 20's I noticed I was doing all the grunt work in terms of getting together with people so I wondered, what would happen if I stopped calling people [this was before social media]. 3 weeks later I heard back from someone. 3 fucking weeks. He said he normally doesn't call people. In time I contacted a few others and dropped the rest. Still not totally sure how much of that was me hanging out with social anxiety introvert types and how much of it was how little I mattered. Perhaps a little from column A and a little from Column B but it isn't as if the crew was hanging out without me, or for most of them with anyone else.

Wow, so sad. She must have been so lonely. Yet she must have given her whole life to her family and children. What is this world coming to?

At least she didn’t have to live through Covid

This is a reason also I don't get a pet , I'm by myself too, I worry what would happen to it if something happens to me.

Leave a toilet seat up and the cat will live off of your body for a while. Probably last long enough for someone to find you.

a friend used to work security in a low income neighbourhood of high-rise apartment buildings. supers would often call him to check out the "smell" from apartments that tenants had been complaining about. he said from the hallway, the smell would be faint, but as soon as you walked into the apartment it hit you strong. the bodies would usually be a few weeks old just laying or seated there decomposing...

Same thing happened to Whistler's mother. Found dead in her chair by the phone after waiting years for Whistler to call. Died of a broken heart.

La la land
It happened to my friends' neighbor all four kids (40+ years old) avoided the mother. She was a narcissist they claim. They rarely visited her because it was always fight about nothing. One child visited in January 1st , four weeks later cops were knocking their doors. All children at mom's house that day and the cops berated them.

Only two cleaned the place up and didn't want anything.

That chair could be a pretty big hit on ebay.

Her panties would probably fetch a bigger price from the 'sniffer' community. Those babies fall into the 'Holy Grail' category for those dudes.

We have no idea how many seniors live in out neighborhood that need help, food, medication etc.
We go about our daily business till some tragedy is bought to light

How close were you actually if you hadn't spoken in at least 4 months?

she actually started to cut people out of her life near the end so there is only so much you can do to try to make arrangements to go see them when all you get is a excuse each time to cancel.
