PRESIDENT BIDEN: Look, again, slight digression: Inflation is up. It’s up. And coming from a family when the price of gas went up, you felt it in the household, you knew what it was like, it matters.

But the fact is that, if we’re able to do the things I’m talking about here, it’ll bring down the costs for average families. It’ll bring down the costs for average families. I don’t know why they keep moving all that, but the fact is: They keep down the costs for average families.

And, look, the fact is that we’re in a situation now where, you know, you should have peace of mind. I know food prices are up, and we’re working to bring them down.

As I said, I grew up in a family where the price at the pump went up, you felt it. And I understand. But these things are necessities. We’re working to bring down prices where there are not totally what families, in fact, have to pay now.

You still have pay to for childcare. Childcare is a cost for millions of families. You still have to pay your prescription drug prices. You still have to pay for healthcare.

You want to lower the cost of living for people? Help them in those areas.

So, there’s more than one way for a family, when it comes to raising their standard of living.

I’m going to work like the devil to bring gas prices down, which I’m going to — I’m working to make sure that we keep strengthening the supply chains to bring the cost of energy and everything else and the goods that come to America down by helping the ports 24/7, by changing a whole range of things that —

You know, what’s happened with COVID — COVID has caused significant increase in prices in the supply chain, because when a factory shuts down in another part of the world and you need that particular product in order to finish and build whatever you’re working on, the price goes up exponentially, like for cars.

But in the meantime, there is a lot we can do to give families extra breathing room. We can do this when we cut the cost of childcare, making sure that you don’t pay more than 7 percent of a family’s income for childcare. That saves thousands of dollars in families — for families.

Agree, but rogue Canadian truckers will probably destroy that pipeline.
The truckers are doing the US a big favour when it comes to protectionism. It's obvious the Liberals are too much of a pussy to even make an effort to stop these yoyo's from clogging up the border.

Kevin Williamson at National Review had an excellent article on this issue.

If Democrats are going to push measures to discourage people from using fossil fuels by making them more expensive, they better be ready for higher gas prices.

As Williamson says, they can have a radical climate policy or they can have lower gas prices, but they can't have both.

Cortez Masto flip flops on fossil fuels

Victor Joecks
Feb 10, 2022

Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto once called the Keystone XL pipeline a “dirty energy” project. Now she wants a gasoline tax holiday. It’s amazing what an upcoming election can do.

On Wednesday, Cortez Masto and Sen. Jacky Rosen announced they were co-sponsoring a bill to suspend the federal gas tax through the end of the year. The tax is 18.4 cents a gallon. The average price per gallon in Nevada is up more than $1 compared with a year ago.

That’s a major political problem, especially for Cortez Masto, who’s running for re-election this year. Rosen is up in 2024. Rising gasoline prices have a long history of hurting incumbent presidents. The lower President Joe Biden’s approval rating sinks, the less likely Cortez Masto is to win in November. If voters start to pin the blame on her specifically, her chances sink even further.

Many of the bill’s sponsors are facing tough re-election campaigns this year. They want to be able to run campaign ads saying that they fought for lower gasoline prices.

“I’m committed to finding solutions that bring our families some much-needed relief at the pump,” Cortez Masto said in a statement.

Tellingly, this tax holiday lasts only until shortly after the election. That’s a gimmick, not a solution.

But that’s not surprising because Democrats, including Cortez Masto, usually push policies that drive up the cost of gasoline and other fossil fuels. They just don’t like to mention that part.

“Senate Democrats will continue to fight for common-sense policies that reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and combat climate change,” Cortez Masto said in March 2019.

In practice, that means cutting off access to fossil fuels. In 2020, Cortez Masto sponsored a bill to prohibit some oil and gas leases on public lands. She also wanted the BLM to reconsider allowing oil and gas leases on 500,000 acres in Nevada.

She’s not an outlier among Democrats. On his first day in office, Biden killed the Keystone pipeline. When then-President Donald Trump tried to move the project forward in 2017, Cortez Masto attacked him for “blindly handcuffing our nation to dirty energy infrastructure projects.”

That’s easy to say when you’ve just won election and won’t face voters for several years. Now, with an election just nine months away, Cortez Masto supposedly wants to make the “dirty energy” cheaper. She’s not the only one. Last summer, Biden asked OPEC to pump more oil after gasoline prices shot up and his approval rating dropped.

Don’t forget this: Higher gasoline prices are a feature, not a bug, in Democrats’ “green” policies. When fossil fuels cost more, electric vehicles and alternative energy sources become more attractive.

Democrats claim this is necessary to ward off the supposed existential crisis of global warming. In 2019, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-New York, infamously said, “The world is going to end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change.”

As it turns out, Cortez Masto doesn’t consider the end of humanity as big of a threat as not winning re-election. Flip-flop.

These politicians know one thing..."get the votes no matter what" lowering gas prices for consumers is the least of their concerns....

Here
Biden has as much influence over gas prices as he does over the economy, which is not much.

Issuing panic statements of impending Russian invasion is not going to bring gas prices down.

We are living in a complex world with many competing interests. Fortunately we have a POTUS who understands this and not someone who substitutes phony and transparent bravado for listing to experts and trying to make informed decisions.

It all makes sense, now. That's why the economy is in the crapper and NATO on the verge of war. Too bad Joe passed away before he had a chance to fix it.

He doesn't understand anything. He doesn't have a clue. You must be living in a different world. Most Americans think he's doing a terrible job.

You may wish to have your eyes checked. Yes the polling and approval numbers are low. By any objective standard he is doing very well. he is not perfect like the former occupant but doing very well. The real story is not getting out.
