The problem is that most political discussion are not (and should not be) exercises in formal logic.

Virtually every discussion ever among humans.

Did none of you ever study rhetoric?

Logic is useful, and understanding when a logical fallacy is in play (especially when it is disguising itself as a logical argument when it isn't one) is also useful.

But the idea that "only logical discussions are good" is just silly. (Especially the idea that if something isn't a logical argument formally it is weak or should be disregarded.)

I would like to add another one:

Thou shalt not Gish Gallop (present a mountain of untested and unproven arguments in rapid succession in an attempt to overwhelm your opponent, giving them no time to respond)

This is the one that pisses me off the most.

Well, I wish you all a productive time adhering to formal logic in all discussions in the future.
I'd like to think I've been doing it in the past so doing it in the future should not present an insurmountable problem

Oh…. That’s not going to happen. I just saw the post on FB and thought to myself “let the shit disturbing begin!”

Is Gish Galloping even a logical fallacy?
I think of it more as a rhetorical tactic. (A super shitty one, of course.)

Very true, but it's presented as logic. "The other guy couldn't address my points, therefore I won the argument!"

Ben Shapiro does this all the time.

Shapiro's famous for it.
But that's also an excellent example of my point.
The Gish Gallop is a rhetorical tactic that involves wasting time and then blaming the other person for not using proper logical argumentation to refute each point.
It cannot be countered effectively with logic.

What are you going on about now?!?!

(Let’s see if he has a logical comeback to that)

The Gish Gallop.
The subject of the sentence is usually the subject of the sentence in English.
:p

Or put it this way.
Rejecting an argument because Ben Shapiro or Tucker Carlson is making it is a logical fallacy.
It is almost always correct, however.
