Most women I know - including some women who seemed way too smart to do this - go through a "hot drug dealer" phase in their early 20's. The danger, the easy ample money, the allure of being "an outlaw's girl" and the fact that the guy is good-looking is what gets them.
When they hit 30 years old, that changes to a "rich older guy to take care of me". Almost every escort that I ever got to know went through that exact pattern.
Yeah, the problem is that there are not enough alpha males to "take care" of women now. All their basic needs are satisfied so expectations are now through the roof.
