Sounds like they expect their candidate to not be good at debates and are taking action now.

it would be more fun if they prohibit them to speak at the debates but allow them to make gestures

Well, considering the platform, or lack thereof, that Trump ran on, I don't blame them. I mean, what policies were they pushing in 2020? I honestly cannot think of one besides vague promises to clamp down further on illegal immigration and new trade deals or some such bullshit. Hell, I don't even think they talked about tax cuts or anything.

Hard to hold a debate on the GOPs vision of America. I mean, they can't come out and say they want a white christian ethnostate.

The Republican party platform for 2020 didn't really exist. They just copied the 2016 platform word for word (including all the bits that attacked "The President") and said they would enthusiastically support Trump.

What used to be the GOP has no official platform other than to kiss the ass of the sorest loser in history. You know the guy who lost the WH, the Senate and the house. the only twice impeached POTUS in history. That is the sum total of their policy convictions.

Unless the moderator is Hannity, or Tucker or Ingraham o someone else of their ilk the nominees will not be able answer any questions. What used to be the GOP has given up any pretense about having any ideas. They only serve to stroke the chosen one's ego and enrich him and his friends.

Seems they do have a few valid points to address.

I don't see any reason why the demand for a debate before early voting starts is a problem. Also term limits for the board members is reasonable.

As to the moderators at this point all the major networks are showing bias. And the TV personalities they use may be looking to make their own headlines. So perhaps it's time to bring in less well known faces to do the moderating.

Oh, the current debate set up is horrible and should be torn down and re-done. They are mostly useless exercises that provide little helpful information.
That doesn't change my opinion that they are being disingenuous about their reasons.
