With recent announcements regarding ramping up the booster (I hadn't quite reached 6 months since my 2nd dose, but now it's only 80something days) and cases now up to 2,400/day from 400 about 10 days ago, I made getting my booster a priority. This is my story.
I went in person to 2 pharmacies. Rexall told me that I have to book online and they have none in stock. Shoppers has stock but I could not book in person, only online. They said that they were booking into mid-January.
I came home and registered for my booster at 2 separate Shoppers and a Rexall. None could give me a firm date and I'm on a waiting list at all 3.
I got onto the Gov't of Ontario portal to book online. The community centre that I went to for my 1st 2 doses had absolutely no appointments. I looked as far as April 30. The best I could do was Feb 1 at Scarborough Town Centre which is nowhere near where I live. That's 6 weeks away as the virus is doubling every few days. I did not feel comfortable.
So I called the gov't phone number to speak to a human being. I was on hold for about 20 minutes and finally got a helpful lady. It took another 15-20 minutes but I finally got an app't for Dec. 28 at Thorncliffe, also not close but better than Scarb.
Not counting going to the actual pharmacies, the time I spent at home getting my app't probably took about an hour and a half. I'd say that I'm satisfied with the final outcome, but it took some work and time.
