Evidently they are flooding into the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand and people are snapping them up.

Cheaper than Tesla and other EV brands manufactured outside
China. $40k is still not cheap enough for most people to dump their
ICE cars.

Eco-conscious folks will point to emission reduction as the reason
to buy a EV. I think dumping your ICE car and use public transportation
is more climate-friendly.

I wouldn't even touch a hybrid...
If I was in the market for an SUV I might consider a Toyota Rav4 Hybrid. I know 5 people who have them and they absolutely love them. In fact, if you mention their car, they won't stop talking about it. lol

The MG claims to have a range of 439 km. I'm sure that's under ideal summer conditions. I'm sure that drops significantly when it's -20 C. At this point I don't really care what fuel costs. It only takes me 5 minutes to fill up, I can do it almost anywhere and I don't have to plan every trip based on the availability of charging stations. Maybe once they have better range, charging stations are as abundant as gas stations and it doesn't take 30-60 minutes to charge it up will I even consider one.

Take the range, reduce it to 80% because in time the batteries will degrade [unless it's a Leaf than 60% but why would anyone want one of those
You should keep the battery between 20 and 80% so 60 percent for that
About 50% so far
Winter worse case senerio another drop to 60% so 30 %
So that 440KM car in a worse case situation is about 130 km range in the winter. Could probably push it a bit more, or with a short charging session you could make it to Hamilton and back. If I were in Toronto in the winter I couldn't see going much further than that. In the summer about 220 or every three On Routes if you want to push it a bit. That would be a bit more annoying at current charging times.

I could make 400km work based on my winter and summer driving patterns although the charging time would be a bit vexing it wouldn't be killer because I don't do a lot of long distance travel. Maybe 1000km round trip along the 401 once or twice a year, maybe a 250km once a week to once a month and 250km in town per month.
I'd have to use a charging station about 30 times a year, the rest of the time I could plug it in at home.

My 2013 civic had caused me no problems so far and isn't rusting yet. I figure I could keep it going another 7 or 12 years [15 to 20 years old] Batteries should be cheaper and faster charging by then and the infrastructure better. Although based on usage, and costs I'd probably break even now if I had to get a new car. Just not worth ditching a deprecrated but still well running car now.

My experiences with British made cars has been disappointing in terms of reliability.

Never had an MG though...

if a judge ordered an adult male to drive this for 20 years it would probably qualify as cruel and unusual punishment

I some times wonder. They say electric is more reliable as there is much less to fuck so even FIAT should be able to make a reliable EV.

OTOH Teslas seem to be or used to be absolute horror shows of build quality and repairs, double plus stunning when you consider they don't have internal combustion engines.
Ditto for anything coming out of China.
