Most people DO assimilate and if not, their kids do. Or at least that's the impression I got growing up with beer drinking, hockey playing Muslims.

In the past, when it was just a few people - yes, most got assimilated. Now, with lots of immigration, many immigrants chose to form their own community, practice their own customs, and live by their own morals and laws. Religion is another issue: it may be imbedded into customs of the host country (e.g., going to church on Sundays), so, when a large portion of population become non-Christians, it affects the host country norms.

By assimilate do you mean acting more white? That is the same know that was made against Jews who were fleeing Europe before and during and after WWII.

Not just "white", but same as people in the host country. Yes, unfortunately, it applies to Jews as much as to any other migrants. There is nothing bad in having a small ethnic community (e.g., diversity in moderation) as long as it does not affect the lives of the people in the host country (e.g.., immigrants go into the government and try to change the laws or just behave in a way different from people in the host country). Immigrants are, in some sense, "guests", and should adopt to the rules of their new country, not try to adjust the rules to their own customs.

And you will be the judge of moderation. Just curious but how does my hanging around with Jews or living in proximity to Jews, just by way of example, hurt to community at largo. Is that different than whites belonging to a white golf club etc. You are espousing a view which i thought had died 1m the 50's. But then again you and your friends continue to live in the fictional world of Ozzie and Harriet which never really existed.

I've been to countries where the entire or almost the entire population is homogeneous. I'm just stating a fact, not saying if it is good or bad.

No, I am not the judge of others. However, as an immigrant, I am a judge of myself. And I believe any immigrant must accept the norm of the countries they immigrate to and behave in accordance of these norms. I see no problem bringing something new from your culture to new country as long as it does not disturbs the way of living of people who accepted me. When you are a guest at someone else's house - you accept the rules of that house.

LOL. You mean as long as they act more white. One of the great characteristics of true democracies and i am not sure how much longer the US will be in that group is the freedom to be who you are and believe what you like and practice the religion of your choice. At one time that was a bedrock principal of what used to be the GOP. Sad what has become of the grand ole party.
