Montreal but I travel!
Hello Torontonians, I will be in TO for 3-4 days arriving Saturday. Anyone can give me some tips about the TO tennis scene? I always travel with my racquets and I would love to know about the public courts around downtown? I played once with a gentleman with whom I spent a week in TO around the Roger’s cup but we were going to an indoor club by the water. I am looking for public outdoors courts since there are only a few days left before going back indoors full time for us from the north who happen to be tennis heads. I do not mind hard courts or dirt balls, I like both. Are courts hard to book, do I need a city card? Is it hard to find partners or a pro to hit with? I am a decent club player, enough to hit with top spin, pace and regularity, I usually play with men But would love to hit with another sp if one loves tennis as well. Appreciate tips!
Thanks

To hit with a club pro you need to be a member of a club. You can hit on decent hard courts operated by clubs but I think the public hours are like after 9pm - though you could play earlier as a guest of a member. I used to think you can turn up at public courts and find others to hit with you but that's not the case. Most people turn up with a friend and hit.

Thanks for your answer. In montreal we have pros on public courts that are hired by tennis montreal, we can hit with them on any public courts. There are also facebook groups to find hitting partners. Maybe you habe those in toronto as well?

No pros on public courts here. There is this site I looked at a few years ago but most players lie about their level/think they're better than they are. Someone claiming to be rated a 4 I'd find they were about a 2. My ex work colleague is on there claiming he's a level 5 but he's probably a level 3.

That’s universal the bad self rating. From 3 to 5 there is an ocean. Anyone who claims to be over a 4, unless they played junior or played high level sports younger, i do not believe them, extremely rare to go over 4 starting tennis as an adult and without serious coaching. I met a chic once who told me she was a 4 so i said i am a 3 but I practice all the time with guys who were juniors, for hitting, i have no issues with pace and deep balls i can even return extremely hard advance serves but in match I am a 3. she said ok cool î´ll hit with you. She could barely hit the ball, she had zero pace zero top spin no volley no serve. Delusional!
thanks for the link

forehand moonballs
I am still looking for someone to hit with sometimes between Sunday and Tuesday morning! SP or gent, as long as you can rally from the baseline I will be happy, no need to play points if you don’t feel it.
