The cycle is once every 100 years till they changed there mind. Anyway, the USA is preparing for it via huge undergorund arcs to save bits of human civilzation just in case. China has probably done so as well. So nothing worry about, you family is dead but life will continue

Those old style cars that can be started by pushing will be in high demand although they still use spark plugs and minimal electronics. Maybe people with guns and sailboats will be the ones who survive the uprising.

you need cars/bikes with points ignition so almost anything original pre 1970's

many older collector cars got upgraded from points to electronic ignition which is more reliable less hassle then points when needed to be set and cleaned/replaced

Seems like fear mongers bring this up every couple of months.
Same with the supervolcano under Yellowstone. Anyone talking about it is going to be seen as some kind of conspiracy theorist - until the day it happens

Ya like terroists pandemics and hurricanes solar flares are a myth. What you got to worry about are the sex preferences of frogs . . .

The 1989 Quebec outage

A Carrington Event in itself does not cause much damage to a pre computer society. The only real danger is that digital data for the whole planet could be erased.
Family photos and porn aside, all modern digital data - specs, teaching material, scientific papers could be erased. Few experts know anything other than how to look up the right app - no app no expert. 3rd world countrines have nothing to fear, Cuba for example will largely be uneffected - its old cars with no computers, and no phone tech. IT will leaad to a time of chaos and catch up .

Carrington event. Internet goes down and stays down for a year. Society becomes politically more stable because Twitter is gone. Most of us learn to hunt. Those who don't will be our bitches. Fat people lose weight. Weak people get stronger, leaner, faster and harder. Death rates by heart disease goes down.

Difficult times for sure but it could be for the better (if you survive the initial apocalypse phase that is).

If all the bank cards stopped working at grocery stores and gas stations this afternoon... and just wouldn't come back online... how do think people would react? Frustration? Panic? Rumours of the Gov't controlling us and we need to take our country back?

The internet going down does not end well.

This whole thread seems to be biased toward the human perspective. No computers and many fewer cars would be terrific for the planet as a whole...
