Colonialism still doesn't work?
You can't "liberate" and "democratize" countries which are still living around the year 1250 AD in all respects except their access to AK-47's and IED's.

I don't think Ghan is worth "colonializing". There's fa there to make $$$ from - except from the opium crop.

You can't liberate or democratize any country, regardless of what your views of its culture are, by force.
That should be the lesson.

You do not win friends or convince someone of your point of view by bombing them.

Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn about Afghanistan. So, who cares that Afghan women have little or no rights and little boys are sexually abused?

The only people doing the bombing are the Taliban. 300,000 innocent Afghan civilians fleeing the Taliban are now DP's (Displaced People). That's what happens when the Americans leave.

Does the Taliban know that? They bomb, shoot and kill people all the time.
I don't think any western person would like to live under Taliban rule. However, they must have support from the population in Afghanistan, otherwise they could not have overtaken most of the country in a short amount of time.

Then again, it does not take much to compete with an occupation force for peoples mind.

Old Mao proverb: "The best way to win their hearts and minds is to point a gun at their head".

Anyway, I wouldn't waste any Canadian blood or treasure on Afghanistan.

Seriously?....

Every warlord in Ghan is now sending his private militia to fight with the Taliban and the last one on the bus gets stoned to death in the village square. There's no opposition. Everyone knows the US is buggering off and most of the friendlies will be left to fend for themselves and hunted and killed.

So people are switching sides or making themselves scarce.

They didn't use force. And they didn't use enough bribery and gifts. That's the epitaph.

I am amazed how poorly the Afghan troops fight considering they get executed or worse if they lose. How come the Taliban are such fierce fighters and the govt troops suck so badly, even with US advisors?

It was the same with the government troops in Iraq and Syria when ISIS attacked.

It is not surprising. The Taliban has broad support among the population, who hates the occupying forces and the Quisling government installed by the occupying forces.

Most likely, the support for the Taliban grew every year Afghanistan was occupied. They were the ones organizing the fight against the occupying forces. I would imagine that the Afghan government brigades are mostly ghosts, i. e. they exists only on paper (payroll sheets).

This was predictable once the US troops pulled out. It's like your parents are gone for the weekend and leaves the house to you and your teenage friends.

"In recent days, the Taliban have shared videos of cheering crowds welcoming them into provinces (though some say Afghans are doing this only to avoid being harmed by the Taliban later). On social media, Taliban spokesmen have been blaming civilian casualties and infrastructure damage on the Afghan government, rather than on the group’s aggressive takeover of vast segments of the country"

I think it is all staged. Kim, Stalin, Saddam, etc. all have/had cheering crowds. Meanwhile, 350,000 or more Afghans are fleeing from the Taliban. These internal displaced persons/refugees will probably end up in Pakistan and then Trudeau will bring them all to Canada.
