Unfettered capitalism, Jeff Bezos was unsuccessful in buying Cyprus (Putin owns it) so he went into space. Can't blame him when he eats that kind of food.

Don't understand why this so is so heavily censored.

The sizes of the wealth of Bill Gates, Musk, Bezos and their ilk are obscene.
But this is a free world. In a free world like the U.S. one deserves to be rewarded
with more freedom if you are filthy rich. I wish I can find an excuse to tax the
filthy rich to the bone to enrich me. But in principle I think people are already paying
more than their fair share of taxes.

No theres too many loopholes for the billionaires tax bracket. Plus they put most of their money in offshore havens. So who knows if Bezos worth even more than he claims .I'm betting he has more. When he first announced he was flying to space, lots were outraged because of the unfortunate people suffering during the pandemic, so he showed face by donating 100 million to the hungry. But reality is one month of his salary could stop global starvation. Some on this board think that would cause a war for feeding those who would've died without food, thats crazy IMO. Putting the local food suppliers out of business no because their not feeding the hungry .there only feeding those that have money. When the pandemic first hit he gave his employees a hero pay to keep them focused on working but that was short lived he cancelled that soon after.During the pandemic he doubled his earnings while the rest of us couldn't even get in our car to work during stay at home orders. Not enough good people are billionaires. I wonder why that is ?

I get what you saying-ish but it is not my responsibility to feed the world and it is not Bezos either.

Everyone has access to offshore accounts and loop-holes, etc. I use as many tax savings and loopholes I can because they are available to me. It is not MY fault. Should I not use them because some one else’s accountant didn’t do it for them? Should I not use them because retail workers can’t? At what point am I able to live my life with all I have done.

Do I think taxes should be higher for the billionaires of the world? Sure, but I don’t blame them because their business model worked out better for them in the pandemic. Just so like I don’t feel guilty that my business model worked out better during the pandemic. I was able to lose the expense of a physical office, I was able to devote more time at home while still make cash, I was able to finally get back to escorting and now I can tour like I enjoy because I can work remote. None of that would have happened without this pandemic. Do I feel for those who were survival sex workers and had to risk their health to go out and work? Of course, but do I feel shame that I didn’t have to? No. Why should I?

I feel bad for many people in the world, but I am not taking them on as my responsibility. I donate when I can and what I can, but I am still going to take care of me first. Just because someone is better off in life then you doesn’t mean they should be sharing with you. He gives more to charities then so many others, that is being a good billionaire, but it is not his responsibility to fix the worlds financial problems.

IF you want to blame, go to your local politician. They set minimum wage, they set the tax rules, they set the loopholes. So go to them, use your vote, but to blame billionaires for using what is available to them and everyone else in world, is just too much.

The non-billionaires as a group have way more wealth than the few billionaires and they are also the major beneficiaries of taxes paid by other people. BTW: Billionaires don't have their money sitting in offshore accounts, that money is invested in their business creating jobs and economic activity.

1) No one is forcing people to take jobs as Amazon warehouse workers. Think they are paying too low - don't apply for the job.
2) The reason why many billionaires like Bezos are paying lower tax rates is because they take a majority of their income in the form of capital gains, which is taxed at a much lower rate than salary. All legal within the tax code
3) Why isn't it mentioned how much of their wealth billionaires are giving to charitable foundations?

The main point of the thread - raising funds from billionaires will yield little if no extra revenue. This has bene proven again and again and again.

And I have interactions with a lot of people who are low income that think an income of $150,000 is a being rich. Or savings or investments of $250,000 is a lot.

AND THEY VOTE.

Sorry but when you’re so rich that you can pay for a space trip while your workers are dying and denied basic employee rights…then nah you’re not a good person.

Tax the rich is a stupid concept and just makes insanely complicated rules for accountants and government agencies (CRA/IRS)

A flat tax is what should happen

The idea that because I am more successful than you I should pay more is just plain stupidity

If a country has a certain GDP they can budget how much for stuff like roads and schools. Why play this cat & mouse game to reduce taxes

How is he underpaying anyone ?

He offers a job and people willingly take it.
If it's not enough money then they are free to leave and work somewhere else.

Reality is that these people lack motivation and are willing to do whatever work they come across due to their laziness and lack of motivation

I understand its a choice to work minimum wage. During the pandemic he offered hero pay and as more workers got covid and had to take sick days off and quarantine time away. He thought that was a good time to cancel it out. Believe it or not theres CEO's like Dan Price for example who increased his workers paycheck significantly that they are financially stable able to buy a house and in return his prophits increased.

Shouldn't have given an increase to begin with.

NOT at all. pinky swear;)
ROTFLMFAO!!! There are not enough super rich to tax to make a meaningful impact on government's revenues. Besides, you cannot specifically target them because the money is simply not there- it's tied up in their enterprises. That's why government's always go after the middle class; they just lower the thresholds for the definition of "rich". I think that in Canada we are all the way down to a couple of hundred thousand. Why do you think our government is so addicted to consumption taxes and the straight payroll deduction? That's where the REAL money is.
