A vehicle is a weapon, as is a gun. Why do you feel the need to distinguish between the two? Criminals will use this against the police when they are emboldened. Which is precisely what happens when you demonize police officers and call for their defunding. Also when you have liberal judges and DA's letting our criminals with little or no cash bail incidents like this rise.

Silentkisser - this is CAUSATION, not correlation.

Cool, cool.
Now show that the vehicular assaults are targeting police, since the definition includes DUI and driving without a license depending on the states.

Sure, it is possible that emboldened criminals have decided to target cops with cars and not guns for... reasons... but that's pretty strange logic.
I don't know if this site describes actual reports of the deaths, in which case we might get some better idea of what's happening.

If you click on the 13 officers names under vehicular assault, it describes the manner in which they died. Of the 13, 5 were as the result of DUI/wrong way drivers and 8 were intentional. But why are we only focusing on this. Every other metric shootings, assaults and stabbings are also up.

The only number that is up statistically is vehicular assaults.
You said this is a result of the defund movement, how does that work?

Police forces have a slightly lower budget so more people drive into cops?

They're all up statistically, look again. Its not hard even an intellectually challenged guy like you should see it.

Bet you more COPs died from C19 than getting rammed by cars but KD does not give a fuck about those COPs, he asks that you respect his body and the choices he makes with his body for not getting vaxxed.

They didn't get COVID because of anything I did or did not do. I have every right to make the choice of what I put in my body and when. So GFY and stick to the topic at hand.

They do have descriptions on the site.
The vehicular homicides in 2021 are about a third drunk drivers, a few people aiming for cops, one cop aiming for the other person's car (to presumably stop them hitting into other cars), a traffic stop gone wrong, someone driving the wrong way in traffic.

It's not really a convincing story of "emboldened criminals".

Struck by vehicle is also up.

With baseline numbers these low, it's tough to see if these deviations will hold.

I suppose a more interesting look would to compare to the average over the last 5 years - that would give you something more solid to work with. (I realize you did do that for the totals for three years back.)
Definitely looks like a rise right now.

So... clearly I lean Liberal.

Yes... Cops need to held accountable for bad behaviour.

But no... defunding the police is not reasonable. Cops need to be supported. Incredibly hard job... incredibly important job.

Both sides of the isle need to stop using police as pawns in their political games.

If you want police to start policing themselves.... make the massive payouts for negligent lawsuits come out of the pension fund... You will see the police union make a massive shift in how if treats dirty cops... and good ones will not turn a blind eye.

Taking some of the police budget and using that send social workers in some situations seems like a smart policy idea.

Increasing the police budget and adequately funding those same social programs would be my answer.

Mind you... I would make policing like the military... most people in for a few years and then out... hopefully without killing anyone. And the absolute brightest would be sticking around for leadership roles.

How about ending qualified immunity and civil forfeiture first.

Ending qualified immunity would be the end of policing. No one in their right mind would become a cop.

Not sure how you're getting your percentages here. I'm just focusing on gunfire, vehicular assault, and assault/stabbing. Here is the increases in 2021

Gunfire +15% compared to 2018-2020 average
Vehicular assault +95% compared to2018-2020 average
Assaults/stabbings +167% compared to 2018-2020 average

The absolute budget for police is way too high, there is little reason to increase it in most places.
The "rotate people out" idea is an intriguing one, but I'm not sure it wouldn't backfire.
If a prime driver of the problem is that the police consider the population the enemy, will rotating them through make that more likely or less?
Could it result in them not developing that "us versus them" mindset? Or would it enhance it because you "have to do your time controlling the animals"?
I'm not sure. I'm not against it in principle, but I'm doubtful.

How about ending qualified immunity and civil forfeiture first.
Both would be helpful. (At least ending them as they exist now.)

Ending qualified immunity would be the end of policing. No one in their right mind would become a cop.
Since qualified immunity is a legal doctrine developed by the courts in the USA, are you saying no cop in Canada is in their right mind?

That image of percentage increase is the one the site itself uses on its front page.

Gunfire +15% compared to 2018-2020 average
Vehicular assault +95% compared to2018-2020 average
Assaults/stabbings +167% compared to 2018-2020 average
This is what I'm talking about, though. Stabbings went up to 2. When you are talking numbers that low you get percentages like the one you've seen.
The vehicular assault is the cleanest, but it also is the one that has the least to do with "anger at the police" since it includes drunk driving and the like.
Violent crime (especially homicides) has gone up the last couple of years, so that you are seeing that with cops as well seems expected.

Valcazar as you are aware the tort system is quite different here in Canada than it is in the United States. We can civilly sue our police officers but its very rare and only in exceptional circumstances.

Both are too low a sample size to use statistically.
You should know that.
