You know, I've been putting some thought into this for the past few days....

Is it possible that the Toronto Maple Leafs are the 2nd best team in the NHL?
They took the juggernaut Montreal Canadiens to 7 games, a couple of overtimes involved.
Since Montreal crushed the plucky Maple Leafs, they have swept the Winnipeg Jets, and are poised to take down the vaunted Vegas Golden Knights in 6.
Carey Price missed a fair portion of the regular season due to injury.
Had CP31 been healthy, Montreal could've been a close 2nd to Toronto in the division, possibly have won it.

It seems the Scotia North may not be such a weak division after all.
You forget that the Super Habs didn't have Goal Caulfield during the reg season and Suzuki and Toffoli were still developing their superHabs' super powers.

Hopefully the Habs and the Islanders in the finals. Late 1970s dynasty vs early 1980s dynasty.
Actually that "late 70's" Habs dynasty started in 1955. On of the great sport dominances of all time.

Guys, the Ontario-Quebec border re-opened on June 16th so feel free to drive to Montreal. I'll bring my Quebec birth certificate just in case. LOL! (My car has a bike rack, so I'll bring my bike with me.)

living near the border I can say practically it opened up much earlier than that. Up to mid may there was a police presence but at my crossing they did nothing to stop you from leaving and when you came back to Ontario you were only stopped if you had a non Ontario plate. Then by about May 20 all police presence was largely gone.

People also underrate that they had to play 25 games in 43 days to end the season because of there COVID outbreak.. in that stretch they had to overplay Jake Allen due to the Proce injury and had a number of injuries. At best there regular season max was still 3rd place but they really benefitted from the one week break before the playoffs started in order to get some practice time and finally practice the system principles that Ducharme was trying to teach.

Not sure why the NHL waited for Calgary- Vancouver to finish all their games first but that decision really did benefit the Habs. That and the fact that they swept the Jets helped them since they would have had to squeeze that series in.

Habs are lucky...they wouldn't have made the playoffs if they were in any one of the other divisions.

I'd be terrified if they brought Newsy Lalonde to drop the puck. He has been dead for over 50 years.

That is a valid point.
Last year as well they got in because of covid.
They also got lucky in the first round.

Every time the Leafs and Habs meet in the playoffs, the team that wins the series goes on to win the cup. The Habs won the cup in 1979. Can the Habs keep that trend going?

At least both of those years the Hab's have made something of that supposed "luck" and can actually win playoff series. They do not make the rules (although in FFA's delusional world view he probably believes they do)

Unlike the Leafs who can't win a playoff series due to their obvious lack of heart, hustle, desire, killer instinct, solid goaltending, and star players who are not capable of elevating their game in the added pressure of playoff hockey when it really matters (hello Marner and Matthews)

The Hab's "luck" is holding through 12 wins so far. The Leafs added yet another year to their long dismal history of playoff futility. But if believing the Hab's are just 'lucky" helps your narrative - well at least you have that to comfort you.

Good teams usually are lucky.........Strange how that works out.

Yes a good team makes the playoffs in 24th place. It's not luck.

Carey Price vs Andrei Vasilevskiy. Vasilevskiy is the better goalie (this season) but Price is the best goalie in this year's playoffs. However, I think Tampa forwards aren't too phased by Carey Price.

Kucherov is injured. How lucky is that.
Leading playoff scoring with 27 pts.
Next closest is Point with 20 pts.

Leafs fans forget that at the start of the season the Habs started first in the North division, then injuries started to mount. They looked to be contenders to finish first in the North. Habs squeaked into the playoffs, key players started to get healthy for the playoffs, combined with some luck, players finally bought into DD coaching system, they started to peak at the right time.
