The Leafs need more size and grit up front. Kerfoot too small but can skate but no muscle. Engvall and Soup speedy but can't hit.

Crazy thought. Marner and Eichel make amlost the same. Eichel wants out of Buffalo. Leafs down the middle, Matthews, Eichel and Tavares. Or do the Leafs flip Marner for two good players who make $5M each.
Seth Jones also wants out of Columbus!

I love that but think Eichel's upside is much higher so the Leafs would have to add more. I also think a top d-man is a bigger priority

Jones not worth $10M though, maybe $6M. But then again Marner isn't worth $10.93M either, not yet anyway. The old NHL GMs don't hand out big contracts until players earned it in the playoffs. The problem is Dubas hands out big $$$$ contracts like candy. I bet Lamoriello would've never given $10.93M to Marner, he would make Marner hold out until he caved in. Also, these greedy fuckin agents ruin the fuckin Leafs too.

Yeah I think Lou should have stayed on till this group showed some growth.

If I recall correctly I think Dubas was Colorado's target and Shanahan had to choose between making him GM or losing him to the Avalanche. Personally I preferred Hunter anyway and would have kept Lou with Hunter and let Dubas go.

Here's my take. First - Marner and AusMatt are 2 of the best players in the league and worth every penny of their paychecks. They just got checked into the ice by Habs and were muzzled through much of the series.

Leafs were a 2 line team in much of the season. With their #1 line checked, they got a little scoring from the rest of the team, but not enough. The Tavares injury hurt badly, because that caused the rest of the forward lines to be scrambled. Willy produced for much of the series. But in the end, Leafs could not put the puck past Price enough and they were vulnerable on the transition.

They need more depth. Same thing the Oil discovered against Jets. You can lean on Dreiseitl and McD throughout the regular season, but you need secondary scoring in the p'offs.

Kris Versteeg thinks Keefe was outcoached, Keefe didn't use the last line change to his advantage enough to keep the Matthews line away from the Danualt line. The reason why Nylander had a good series, he didn't face the Danault line nearly as much as the Matthews line. When Versteeg played for Chicago, they always got Kane away from the checking line.

I agreed 100%! Bad influence for team. Matthews deserves better crowd. I felt terribly sorry for the Leafs lost last night. I did cut the shirt off and delete the pic on my Theredzone ad. It would take them about 48 hours to process. I won't discuss or watch any Leafs games ever again.

I am out. Embarrassing.
Catherine dear - if you need me to come over and comfort you over this terrible loss, i'll be more than willing to help you out :)

The first major decision will be one the Board has to make. This is the 7th season of Shanahan and the team has not gone passed the first round. The negative fan reaction is one that never been worse. Will the board react the same way or stay put ? My guess is he’ll stay for at least another year.

‘’The next question will be Dubas and Keefe. This is the third season under Dubas and again complete melt down come playoff time. Shany seems to be a loyal and stubborn guy so if he stays, my guess is so will Dubas and Keefe.

Then it will come down to the roster. Can we still believe that we can move forward with over $40mil tied up for 4 forwards ? Personally I think one of them has to go and it’ll be either Marner or Nylander.

Marner has had bad playoffs and his trade value is probably at the lowest. Nylander’s trade value may be quite high because there may be gms who would just look at the numbers like our on board cheerleaders do and think that he’s the best Leaf and a leader. For better return I’ll say trade Willy.

Equally important decisions will have to make on Rielly and Hyman. Rielly has not been able to quarterback the pp effectively but how are we going to get an upgrade ? Trades will be costly. Zeth Jones may be available but he’s an upgrade on defence but not on offence.

I’d hate to see Hyman go but there’ll be teams throwing fat deals with term at him that the Leafs are unable or unwilling to match. He’s a much better leader than Nylander in my opinion and he’s worth just as much to the team if not more.

The last 2 Maple Leafs I watched was

2013 Leafs vs Boston game 7 collapse!
2021 Leafs vs. Habs game 7 collapse!

Both games were so entertaining. Whats even more entertaining is all senior citizen Maple Leafs fans calling into to the post game radio shows showing all the signs insanity.

To all the Leaf fans that expected a different outcome in game 7. Please seek professional help immediately.

Its pretty hard to come up with a stellar supporting cast when 4 players account for 48% of your cap. As for Marner and Mathews the difference between good and great players is great players find a way to fight through adversity. You're not gonna make a long playoff run if your top 2 guys aren't producing. Marner and Mathews are talented guys but they have yet to display it in a playoff series!

Same old Leafs.

This team is cursed
LOL....even the TorStar agrees with me

I don’t know if it’s the ghosts of Bill Barilko or Harold Ballard or Red Kelly screwing around with Pyramid Power in the ’70s, but even the late skeptic James Randi would now embrace the paranormal as a plausible explanation. This franchise is cursed by a force in the universe far more powerful than Auston Matthews and his ridiculous ’stache.

That ghastly injury to captain John Tavares in Game 1? Curse. Giving up a 2-on-nothing less than a minute into overtime in Game 5? Curse. The turnovers, the delay-of-game penalties, the clanging posts, the sputtering power plays, the fact this team was as flat as an opened can of Mountain Dew forgotten for a week

curse, curse, curse, curse and curse.

The curse came for Jake Muzzin’s groin. Then the curse savaged the hearts of Leaf fans.

Again. It’s always again because this team will never stop breaking your heart. We will colonize Mars and cure cancer before the Leafs ever make it to the finals. This team has not won the Stanley Cup in my lifetime. They have not made it to the second round in the lifetimes of my daughters. If I ever have grandkids, I doubt the Leafs will manage a .500 record

Seriously, bud?

Mitch Marner is one of the best players in the league and he and AusMatt are essentially the Leafs at this point. They get little scoring from the rest of the team. The problem is that they have very little up front, once you subtract MitchM, AusMatt and Willy. Shut down those 3 guys and you shut down the Leafs.

Doh. Willy ruled because he was up against a less effective Habs line. He would have been more productive playing w Tavares, rather than Kerfoot.

I think Shanahan has done a great job as Prez and I believe he will keep the job for a while longer as there’s only so much he can do from his position.
I think Dubas has made a lot of good moves on paper, but stud defencemen and top goalies are hard to come by. I think his biggest mistake has been the contracts he’s given out.
I think Keefe has been a good coach and needs more time to be among the better ones.

the big four contracts are what’s killing this team. We’re too top heavy and need to fill the roster with cheap older players rather than spending more on better depth guys.
One of the big four has to go and it would be a mistake for it to be Matthews. I would prefer Nylander but maybe we can package Marner and Nylander for Seth Jones and a Max Domi or Laine?

I am actually a big Marner fan but I‘m concerned with his poor playoff performance in 4th consecutive seasons. I hope they don’t trade him but at the same time I don’t think they can make significant improvements on the roster with that much money/cap space tied up in 4 forwards. Somewhere somehow they’ll have to find that stud d man who can effectively quarterback the pp and play better defence than Rielly before they can become a real contender; and they’ll need to get that cap space from trading one of the big 4, hopefully it’ll be Nylander and not Marner.

Time to move forward.

- Let Thornton, Anderson, Nash and Simmonds go.
- Explore Marner, Dermott and Holl trade options even if gotta eat some salary. Seth Jones?
- Muzzin is damaged goods. Try to trade.
- Do what’s necessary to keep Hyman.
- Let Mikheyev go to Seattle
- Give another offer to Spezza, Rittich, Galchenyuk and Bogosian.

Marner was actually one of the best Leafs in the last 2 playoff disasters. It's the lack of depth that kills them.
