Sasha Johnson, one of the leading Black Lives Matter activists in the United Kingdom, is in critical condition after she was shot in the head early Sunday, according to reports.

Details of the shooting were not immediately provided by London’s Metropolitan Police Department. News outlets including the BBC and the Guardian reported that city police responded to a shooting just before 3 a.m. in southeast London. The victim was a 27-year-old woman and the shooting was near a house party. The Guardian, citing police, reported that there is no immediate evidence to suggest she was targeted.

The BBC reported that Johnson, 27, is also a leading member of the country’s Taking the Initiative Party, which the report said is considered Britain’s first "Black-led political party."

Her party appealed to the public to pray for her recovery.

The Guardian reported that Johnson rose in prominence during protests last year that broke out in Britain.

The paper also pointed to Claudia Webbe, a Labour MP, who took to Twitter after the shooting to call the incident involving Johnson "shocking."

"All women should be safe on our streets," she tweeted. "Wishing her a full recovery. Sending love and solidarity to her family, friends and loved ones. There are still too many guns and violent weapons damaging too many lives #BLM."

Interesting point. I've not looked at the data for a long time, so I may be wrong, but I believe that far more men are the victims of violent crime (involving a stranger), which would mean it is already much safer for women to walk the streets than it is for men.

Police statement: "there is nothing to suggest it was a targeted attack or that the woman had received any credible threats against her before this incident."

Her friend, Imarn Ayton, said she did not believe Johnson was the intended target.

"As far as we are aware, she was at a party," she told the BBC. "There was a rival gang that may have heard about someone being in that party that they didn't feel quite comfortable with or trusted and so they resorted to driving past and shooting into the garden, and one of those shots obviously hit Sasha Johnson.

"But I don't believe she was the intended victim."

Of course CNN won't state that there is NO evidence she was shot at/targeted for being a Black activist. Meanwhile most of the UK media stresses this was a gang-related drive-by because they don't want to sow divisiveness and hatred, unlike much of their US-based counterparts.

And of course, CNN has to get George Floyd's name in there as well lol.

A 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon and possession with the intent to supply class A drugs, according to a Wednesday statement from Metropolitan Police Detective Chief Inspector Richard Leonard.
Three men -- aged 18, 19 and 28 -- were arrested on suspicion of affray (a group fight) and possession with intent to supply class B drugs, while a fifth man, who is 25, was arrested on suspicion of affray and failing to stop for police, the statement said.


"While the investigation remains in its early stages, these arrests show that progress is being made. However, I would continue to appeal to those who may hold information about the events that led to Sasha receiving her horrific injuries, or about those responsible, to do the right thing and come forward and speak to police," Leonard said. He added that all five men remain in custody.`
