So since I’m vaccinated, I’m returning to work. I am thinking about refreshing my site, and looking at my policies and rates, etc so see if they are still applicable.

I am thinking about the current state of affairs and thought about my rates. I thought it would be nice to maybe knock $10-20 off because it is really not a big deal to me but could mean something to a client.

But then I worry about when the pandemic is over and I want to raise them back to par, how difficult would that be? I can’t exactly offer a 6 month “special” so-to-speak.

Normally when you raise rates, regulars are grandfathered but my current clients already pay my on par rate. Do they then all get the new rate and never go back to the original rate they paid for years?

It seems like a great nice gesture but implementation seems harder then I originally thought.

Opinion?

As someone who tries to manage my limited hobbying budget and as someone who has you on my must-see list, I love the idea of lowering your rates but......... if a guy wants to see you I dont think $10-$20 off will make the difference. Maybe offer that discount at a time or day that is typically slower so that those guys (like me) who want to see you will be motivated to do so during that discounted time?
Either way I know I will be calling after I have been vaccinnated. ;)

I don’t really have “slow” times because I book only a small few in a month. Although that would be a good idea if that was the case. ;)

Rather than $10 or $20 off, perhaps a small time extension.
You have mentioned you're a low volume provider.
Something I dislike is when a provider immediately, or almost so, herds me toward the door as soon as the deed is done.

I agree...... that would appeal to me a lot more than a small savings.

I don’t do that anyways. Most appointments go 5-15mins over times. Especially if we had a coffee first for chit chat.

Again, the advantage of being a low volume provider. I don’t have to watch the clock as much as others. I mean time paid is time paid and I won’t knock a lady who can manage the time well enough that the guy is out the door at exactly 60mins because I understand that time is money but I’m just not in a position to have to do that myself.

Although that was a great idea also
:)

A few months before the pandemic hit North America, I had reduced my rates by 50. So when we went into lockdown, I thought the responsible, thoughtful thing would be to further reduce my rates by another 25. with the caveat that I’d gradually increase as the lockdowns eased off. None of us thought we would still be in lockdown over a year later.

Most of my regular playmates have continued giving me what they used to before the reductions. So they get extra time, extra flexibility. From most feedback, some have been able to see me more frequently. Some are grateful as they have been able to justify allotting funds to self-care so to speak when they couldn’t before.

Everyone is an adult here, we hope! Your fans will see you no matter what, and those that take advantage of reduced rates now, will most likely not hold it against you when you increase them.

This is great feedback. Thank you.

@Jenesis - awesome looking out for your customers. I think anything you can give back is appreciated. I'm sure your regulars won't even accept it but rather let you keep it - either way - you seem to have a stellar reputation so keep doing what you are doing.

Why can’t you offer a 6 month special?
“Since we are all stressed from the pandemic, and many are suffering due to loss of income, I’ve decided to knock 20% off my rates for the next two months”
Then if you like, and things are still COVID shitty after 2 months you can say “COVID special extended!”

True. Good point. Not quite how I am use to it but that could work.

I made the same offer to some of my regulars. Didn't go that well.

@Jenesis

I may be jaded but experiences in my life have taught me that no good deed goes unpunished and that when you offer people flexibility as a gesture of good will it very quickly becomes the new expectation and people get shitty about it when you have to say No at some point.

My advice is don’t do it.

Some may criticize me harshly here, but personally, I wouldn't bother about lowering your rates.
You're a low-volume provider, so you're obviously not considering lowering rates in an effort to increase your volume.
And those who want to see you will pay (and can afford) your regular rate, regardless of any discount you're considering.
And then the dilemma of whether or not to grandfather those rates to regulars and how to raise rates back is too much of a pain to bother with it in the first place.
The ideas of time extension is good, but that also has its inconvenience of what to do if/when you raise your rates later on.
In short, too much hassle from all sides.

Central Ont. between here & there
some good & some great points.
$10-20 wont sway me from seeing someone I've wanted to see. The 15-20 min extension would be a great thing & may open up some who have thought about meeting up jump in. Perhaps giving past people who have met you a 20-30 min extension once only, as a thank you for coming back to reconnect. For those of you wondering, no I've never met personally with Jenesis so that would not help me out.
just my $0.02
