Just ran my stuff through Studiotax and found $45 in savings.
Better in my pocket than theirs.
Thanks.

Long story short. I aborted my first attempt and started a second attempt and all seems well. I'll take a fresh look tomorrow morning.

Fuck them.
Error on your side for sure, and let them work for it and tell you if you’re wrong

I'll let it slide. Something obviously went haywire on the first attempt, still not sure what.

Did your attempt go smoothly? Probably yes as you mentioned a $45 refund.

I have been using TurboTax Standard for many years. 2020 was $35 from Amazon plus tax.

Allows 8 returns so I do my whole family. Allows Netfile at no extra cost. Returns saved on my computer only.

None of the issues mentioned above. My NOA's always agree with the returns I filed.

Fwiw...
I also don't get trying to force free (or now $15) software work for your needs. The time spent to get Studio Tax to work exceeds the cost of the popular tax software out there. Just not worth it IMO.

I have a feeling that Studiotax is under new management and that is why they are charging a $15 fee and the software is all f----ed up. But, the CRA is suppose to vet and approve the software, maybe that is why it is doubling your income so Trudeau can collect more taxes (I kid, maybe).
Economic realities stepped in and that forced them charge. IMO, offering it for free was a flawed strategy from the start. It doesn't matter how passionate the dev team is because they have bills to pay. Good on the dev team though for offering it for free for so long and are still doing it for Indigenous and low income groups.

Actually, a friend recommended it several years ago. So I got used to it over the years and it does work well once one gets the hang of it.

Not sure what happened on the firsts attempt and it doesn't matter now. I'll revisit the return again in the light of tomorrow morning.

Lol, no refund. That would be wrong.
Just owe $45 less.

I think that's the best in the inexpensive class of tax prep software. I see they've upped it from 5 to 8 returns allowed. Not bad.

.... Now, I have two T5's (the original and the amended) from the same institutions, I'm concerned that the CRA will add the two and taxed me on double the real income. I suggested to the institutions the amended T5 should show only the top-up.
If you have a CRA My Account, you can log in and see what information slips have been filed with it.

Actually, I do and I do but the info is not real time and sometimes takes a while to show up. I actually received two amended T5's this month. I'll check my CRA account on a periodic basis to see if they deleted the original incorrect T5 and show only the amended T5.
