The Government is not asking for random stops! It's about stopping dumbasses from gathering and intentionally breaking the COVID mandates.

Although it seems the OPP isn't going to be holding back LOL

I will however wager, if I'm alone in my car driving to the office they will not bother me. On the other hand, if I have a car full of folks, it really shouldn't be a surprise if I was to be pulled over and questioned.

I don’t think they are refusing per se. I think they are informing people that while that power has been given to them, they are not going all authoritarian on us common folk by setting up RIDE style programs to question people and they are not going to just randomly stop people. Which is what the fear was. Their posts are more clarifications then refusals.

I edited, you are right.

One of Michael Bryant's disciples said it is racial profiling and carding and is unconstitutional.

The police know how to treat the people who matter.
The CERB people

The people who don't matter will get a police chiropractor on their neck.
The Ontario Works people and that right-2-die/genocide in Canada people.

I have a feeling that policy will change real quick if numbers keep going up

I have mix feelings about the mesure. Where does that idea that police will make a difference where the government fails is even coming from?

Impose a curfew, then patrol to enforce it maybe? They do nothing and they just throw them out there in the hopes of making a difference. It's all sound very weird to me and not very organized.

I don’t think so. Not for COVID measures anyway.

My fear is if this will just be another carding opportunity. I mean if they change their policy in the future. Then they may pick and choose when to use the new authority as an excuse.

But for now, I think they are just saying they have the power but nothing changes and life goes on.

I agree that it makes no sense. It would have made better sense to impose a curfew and then enforce.

I think the police are taking the right stand. “Thank you for the power but we’re good” type attitude

I doubt I'll be randomly stopped while alone in my car driving anywhere in the gta, but I won't risk sitting in my car in a known incall hotel parking lot like an obvious "john" while waiting for the booker to text me the room number...

The numbers going up has nothing to do with people being outside. You need to be silly to believe that we can somehow wait this virus out, no it doesn't work like that, never did, never will. In fact isolating people is probably worse especially that we know the virus can mutate into variants; every time you lift restriction and bring people together there will be something new they get exposed to and the numbers will spike up again. You need to vaccinate those who need it most, have sound sanitary measures in place and let people move on with their lives like they do in many states south of the border. To get an idea for how your age group fares scroll to the bottom of this page and you can see what is the likelihood of you getting hospitalized, being admitted to ICU or dying.

NRP

“We will not be conducting random vehicle or individual stops,” said a press release issued by the NRP, adding that enforcement will be “complaint-driven or proactive, with the goal of gaining compliance.”

Which isn't all that surprising given it's like pulling teeth trying to get the NRP out of their cars and actually do anything.

Random stops are presumptively unconstitutional. The RIDE program had to be specially approved by the courts. As I understand it, folks won't be randomly stopped if driving or walking on the streets, but the borders will be closed to all but essential traffic and cars will be pulled over there. Also recreational areas like K-B Park will be closed down and patrolled.

It really comes down to common sense. What cop wants to harass a person or persons walking or driving minding their own business? The difference now is they do have the power if they see folks congregating as a group, a complaint, a business open that shouldn't be or anyone completely shitting on the safety mandates.

They should pull out, no babies.

A cop stopped me on the Humber Trail and told me to state my business. I said, "it's damn boring staying home all day, I need some fresh air"...he told me to have a nice day.

Is Bill Maher correct, this is possibly the best New Rules he's ever done. Yes listen to doctors but we also need Body Break back.
