I would not be that optimistic that the corresponding Canadian "exploitative relationship" test is that different from US "crazy-as-fuck" .

How hard is it for a judge to find something like... On one side of the scale, we have a man in his fifties with considerable life experience and access to money and drugs, who lives in his own apartment. On the other, we have a sixteen-year-old unemployed high school student who initially lived with her parents, subsequently had no home, and then lived with a boyfriend, is addicted to drugs, has unsuccessfully undergone an intensive drug rehabilitation program, has no meaningful access to money and therefore no access to drugs, and has self-esteem and mental health issues. Given these parameters, I am comfortable in concluding a power imbalance did exist in this relationship, and that the scales were tipped heavily in favour of the appellant.

in todays political climate any 50yo or even 35yo hooking up with a teenager will look repugnant and deserving punishment. This type of case would be fun to argue but would not be fun to be on trial for.
