Somewhere between here and there
Henry Cavill is being attacked by the left on social media for not speaking out against Gina who he dated. In an interview he wasn't even aware of the attacks as he is not a social media person. He then got the interview back on track and that is all he would say about the situation.

Dude if I were fucking her she could be chanting Heil Hitler while I bang away. I mean the relationship wouldn't last long, but it's far from the most reprehensible behaviour I've put up with in SPs, and she's hotter than 99% of SPs.

I tend to think many things on Twitter are just trolls taking the piss.

Some of you really seem to relish living in a society where people can lose their jobs for expressing an opinion. All hail the SJW Twitter Lynch Mob.
Well...
The Left often eat their own. Karma is a bitch. Just ask Leon Trotsky.
Cancel culture can easily turn and swing its guns on the very people who are supporting it now.
We will see how smug these keyboard warriors are then.

I'm not really a fan of Shapiro anymore. I like his logical arguments, but the more I watch of him, the more hypocritical he appears. He conveniently leaves out so much, and goes super soft on those his audience loves and super hard on those they loathe. He likes to go on and on about how the facts are what matter, but since he's leaving the facts out that don't cater to his audience, his argument is kind of weak.
That's who he has always been. Even his logic is often tortuous, although usually he has sound logic but just leaves out inconvenient facts and just uses whatever base premise will allow him to get to the conclusion he wants.
It's why he gets his ass kicked by people who know what his schtick is and how to counter it.

Do you care to name such people?
Andrew Neil leaps to mind since it was so public.
Can't say I follow Shapiro enough to know who else has done it recently.
I seem to recall Oswalt pretty much smacking him down.
Ben tends to make sure he stays on friendly ground and seems to mostly "debate" college kids.

Every time someone says Shapiro was dismantled bring up Andrew Neil from BBC interview. Ben got too emotional that one time because something got under his skin.
That's it! That's all you have on a dude who's been in a public eye for years, debating anyone and everyone.

Like Shapiro or dislike him - he's one hell of a skilled orator and debater. Not too many have a chance of outperforming him.

Sorry but society has always been that way. You 're just upset that people sharing your opinions are no longer the ones making the decisions.

He's a terrible debater if you mean debate in the sense of "discussing ideas and arguing for your positon".
He is an excellent performer at his specific schtick. As discussed above, it involves leaving facts out or just lying about them, using lots of ad hominem attacks, and doing your best to get your opponents emotional.
Couple it with performing like you know what you are talking about and speak REALLY fast so the other person has to stop and work out where your false premises and lies are and then either go with the ad hominems or just demand answers while they are catching up and push them to becoming emotional. It's mostly just extended Gish Galloping.

He is very good at that. It just isn't debate. When you have someone who doesn't care or who shrugs off his button pushing, he freaks out because he is kind of fragile emotionally. He loses more debates than he wins on twitter because he can't use those tactics. He doesn't stay on stage with people who can do that to him for the most part, and when he is stuck there he mostly just sticks to his talking points and declares victory even when he lost on the merits. He debates to get the YouTube hits mostly, so all he needs his opponent stumbling to edit what he wants.

The problem is that laughing at him and pointing out his tactics or just shrugging him off doesn't get interpreted as a win by his fan base even as he got his ass kicked. His clips are about "scoring points" and that is the whole purpose of his "debates". Even with those advantages, there is a reason he tours universities and debates college kids - he's desperately afraid of what an adult would do to him.

I don't believe debating on Twitter or other online platforms is very effective and oftentimes obsolete. There are too many trolls out there who enjoy poking and making fun.

Debating someone in person allows us to see and hear, pick up on gestures and tone of voice.

The point of leaving out some facts is debatable in itself. What you consider to be facts may not be such to him, so leaving them out would be logical.

Anyways, next time I listen to Shapiro's debates, I'll try to keep my mind open.

If you have a few minutes to spare read this article. I found it to be interesting and it applies to us all.

Anyways, next time I listen to Shapiro's debates, I'll try to keep my mind open.
I would say his two key moves are the hidden premise or snuck premise - where he sets up an argument where some of his premises get stated as already established facts. By doing that fast and with an aggressive approach people don't have time to notice he has already faked his way to one or two statements he didn't defend or justify and now people are either already talking about the wrong question or they stop him to try and address the snuck premise and he accuses them of dodging the real question he is asking. It's shady as fuck but effective.

The other in general is the Gish Gallop. (RationalWiki has a much snarkier description of the technique if you want a bit more detail and don't mind the tone.)

If you have a few minutes to spare read this article. I found it to be interesting and it applies to us all.
Absolutely. All well known problems in human cognition.

Ben Shapiro is a joke. When you read the "offensive" lyrics of a rap song its clear you are targeting an old conservative crowd. I mean those types of lyrics have been around since the 90s....almost 30 years ago.

Agreed. Plenty of people lost jobs over things they were accused of saying. Except it was called being blacklisted.

Think most politicians, athletes and celebrities have known this for a long time. Which is why you often get safe answers to questions.

Hockey players are famous for sticking to just talking about hockey for example.

Cancel culture also doesnt jusr happen to right wing views....Kapernick lost his job as well.

Cancel culture is just a new term for an old phenomenon.

"Leftism is a religion of self-loathing. It teaches white people to hate their race, boys to hate their sex, women to hate their femininity, Americans to hate their country, westerners to hate their history. What a contemptible, toxic thing it is."
that's weird, because I'm a leftist but I don't hate any of the things you name here.
