People stampeding around. You get on one train, but to get much of anywhere you need to change trains, usually more than once. Like TO subway only way, way scuzzier...

I remember when the garbage strike was on in the GTA. I didn't feel like driving downtown so I took a subway and the stench of garbage , it just wreaked that most of us couldn't breath. New York Subways have been in rough shape for many years.

I've been on the NYC subways several times (but not recently). Best way to get from Manhattan to Long Island City or Yankee Stadium. Yes, it is always crowed and can get really hot in Summer.

Heard this on the news earlier to-day. Sad.

Subways have always been a chemical soup of nastiness. I'd be curious to know how much better (if it all) the air quality of subway systems like Hong Kong that have platform doors.

There was a story or two that said some TTC subway employees wanted to wear masks even prior to COVID. The wheels rubbing against the rails throws up a fine dust particle.

Yeah, it's nasty when you think about what other stuff is down there. When I was riding the subway regularly I'd blow my nose and it was often black  The thing is that the GO trains are not a lot better.

Now that I have a huge inventory of masks, I think I'll still wear a mask on the subway even when COVID is history.

Another risk are scary humans.
