Lucasfilm’s Decision to Fire Gina Carano Is Galactic Hypocrisy

Disney’s Lucasfilm announced it is parting ways with “The Mandalorian” star Gina Carano Wednesday after the actress posted a story on her Instagram comparing the current tense political climate to Nazi Germany.

The story has since expired and is no longer viewable.

The actress posted:

Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors… even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?

In response, Lucasfilm severed ties with the actress, stating: “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

Yet this post did not denigrate anyone based on their “cultural and religious identities.” Far from it. Her statement admonished listeners of the dangers of hating our neighbor based on their race, religion, or politics.

Of course, we should never imply that the political tension of today comes anywhere close to the evils perpetuated by the Nazis. Nothing compares to the depravity of those who plotted and participated in the genocide against the Jewish people. We should never forget this.

Thankfully today, politically driven hate rarely poses a threat to our lives. But it is true that in totalitarian regimes, neighbors indeed inform on others who refuse to embrace the ideology of the state.

Communist tyrants of the 20th century, like Fidel Castro in Cuba, Mao Zedong in China, and Josef Stalin in the Soviet Union, all enlisted support of the general populace as they waged a political war, destroying millions of lives in the process. The threat to our civic society—and sometimes to our very lives—is a threat emanating not only from the state, but also from each other.

Ironically, another Mandalorian star—Pedro Pascal—unmistakenly trivialized the Holocaust while disparaging our own nation. In a tweet, he shared a meme comparing the Trump administration’s immigration policies to Nazi concentration camps.

This is a common practice by the left, which in recent years routinely called former President Donald Trump and his supporters Nazis, or compared Trump’s policies to Nazi crimes.

Pascal later posted a meme on his Instagram comparing Trump supporters to both Confederates and Nazis.

Pascal, of course, received fawning attention for his posts. Disney retained the leftist actor while canceling Carano.

Quick reminder: Disney is the same company that filmed the “Mulan” remake in Xinjiang, China, mere miles away from actual concentration camps. Even worse, it thanked a police bureau in Xinjiang the Trump administration blacklisted for its involvement in the genocidal campaign against Uighur Muslims.

Add the vocal criticism from the movie’s lead actress toward pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong and Disney’s glaring hypocrisy becomes even more apparent.

Carano will not be the last conservative booted from Hollywood. It seems that the commitment made by Lucasfilm heads to boost women in leadership roles only applied to leftist women.

Of course this article from the Dailysignal will be completely discredited because of the source,

But the point is you can't have it both ways. If going to use the Nazi's to bolster your assertions then don't be cancelling the other side for doing the same.

Personally I think the holocaust is off limits my self

So once again, you are OK with the comparison to Jews and Nazis? I'm not bringing it up as a whataboutism, it's what she said.

Bringing up China or Rwanda is whataboutism. What about her comments? Are you ok with them? Were they appropriate?
What she said is not out of line. Not in 2021 and not by the long shot.

I wouldn't mind a debate. However, I don't believe most people here are receptive to alternative points of view.

Debates and discussions feel like:
Listening and agreeing are two separate things. I am receptive to listening to what you have said. I understand you believe that cancel culture exists and this is an example of it.

I disagree. I believe she broke her contract with repeatedly supporting things like election and COVID falsehoods, and making racist, and transphobic comments. I believe that she has been given many chances.

That is discussion. We have had it. I’m not changing your opinion. I am not here to try to change your opinion. I respect your right to believe and feel what you want.

It appears to me however that you want my opinion changed or you label me as being unreceptive. Not agreeing is not being unreceptive. It is the opposite. It is that I have heard you and I simply disagree.

It's ironic that this is the same company who's final straw for cutting this woman loose was a tweet that involved a picture of a Jewish woman. A tweet btw that was not at all supporting anti semitism.

I appreciate your openness and being receptive. In no shape of form am I trying to change your mind if you disagree with narrative or premise. My ego would feel much better if everyone agreed of course.

I'd feel much easier though if arguments presented were acknowledged from both sides. Unfortunately, we sometimes don't watch a video, read an article or open a link to a source of information, but continue to debate as if no facts were presented.

As an example: a lot of facts were provided in this thread which show that Gina was basically pressured and harrassed to get behind Trans cause and fight for them. She didn't and became a target for refusal. For whatever reason you keep saying that she made trasphobic comments which is not true.

Imagine thinking she wasn't fully aware of what would happen.

Years of online bullying she recived for not wanting to play left wing ball so finally she turned it to 11.

The mental gymnastics to not see the point she made as valid, but true....
Well, 'grats on gold medal.
So let me understand this:

Carano spends a chunk of her life trying to break into acting as a second career and finally gets probably the best break that she possibly could obtain, based on her limited talents. Her regular gig on The Mandalorian likely makes her high 6 or low 7 figures for not much work and it amply showcases her for future lucrative and high profile gigs. It's the proverbial "dream Hollywood break".

And then - you suggest - she bravely and deliberately sacrifices this amazing job (that she has fought hard to get for several years), just so she can repeat some bullshit nonsense about Trump's election being "stolen" and COVID being a "hoax", apparently just so she can pwn the libs?

And she absolutely and permanently shit-trashes her third rate Hollywood career, blows away her agent and wrecks everything she has spend years working for with no chance of getting any of it back ever again.

If she is that gloriously fucking stupid, I would pay to see Netflix do a movie of her debacle of a life, just so I and all my leftard friends and relatives could sit around and piss ourselves laughing at how cosmically dumb this bitch is! It just simply wouldn't get any better!

You said Shapiro is full of it because he makes money by catering to a certain crowd.

I said both sides do it.

You replied in a long post that Shapiro and others make profits by monetizing their points of view and once again it is somehow different from someone who's on the left.

All I'm saying is there are 2 sides and you keep telling us there's only 1.
Both sides do it. The righties do it more, because it's a more established gig on the right, although that is changing.

I never said only 1 side did it. And it doesn't make it any more acceptable when YOUR favourite grifters do it.

So are you guys going to cut and paste ALL of the dozens of identical, cookie cutter articles from the internet white culture war websites today to "win your argument"?

It's gonna be a pretty, darn long thread if you do that.

Yes.

Why?

Because she is:

A) aware that the heads where looking to get rid of her for a long time.

B) she isnt scared and is tired of taking the online harassment of people who demand stuff of her I.E putting pronouns on her bio

C) she sees the legitimate toxicity of our social climate. At no point it time is it beter then NOW for a person with a real voice to send a real message and her firing prooved her right...

Because... after all..

If you cant see the "rules for thee and not for me" then i dont know what to tell you...

But of course, lets not forget this gem... actually calling for genocide? Naaa no one cares.
But whoever that Morrison idiot is, he should get fired too.

I don't see anyone on TERB defending that guy.

I notice people obviously left of centre on this board quite often attach a derogatory term to someone who's views conflict with their own.

It's a sign of low confidence in themselves.

If you would've watched this video - you wouldn't make most of your comments. You're very misinformed about Gina.

She talks about her acting career and how she even got into it from start of the clip to about 31 minute mark. Then she talks about haters and online bullies going after her.

Please hear it from horse's mouth before torching her. Btw, she is a sweetheart and always was. Very polite and down to earth regardless of her success inside the cage or in acting.

Gina Carano Hits Back, Announces New Movie Project With Ben Shapiro’s Daily Wire: “They Can’t Cancel Us If We Don’t Let Them”

Gina Carano in 'The Mandalorian'Disney
EXCLUSIVE: Less than 24 hours after her explosive ouster from Star Wars series The Mandalorian for incendiary social media posts, Gina Carano has hit back at her detractors and revealed a new movie project she is making with conservative website The Daily Wire.
Carano told us today: “The Daily Wire is helping make one of my dreams — to develop and produce my own film — come true. I cried out and my prayer was answered. I am sending out a direct message of hope to everyone living in fear of cancellation by the totalitarian mob. I have only just begun using my voice which is now freer than ever before, and I hope it inspires others to do the same. They can’t cancel us if we don’t let them.”

https://deadline.com/2021/02/viacomcbs-disney-upfronts-newfronts-traditional-may-slot-1234691495/

Dank Farrik, as her Mandalorian character would say.
Carano will develop, produce, and star in the upcoming film, which The Daily Wire says it will release exclusively to its members as the company looks to bolster its entertainment division. Details are being kept under wraps but it will be produced as part of Daily Wire’s partnership with Bone Tomahawk producer Dallas Sonnier and his Bonfire Legend banner.
“We could not be more excited to be working with Gina Carano, an incredible talent dumped by Disney and Lucasfilm for offending the authoritarian Hollywood Left. This is what Daily Wire exists to do: provide an alternative not just for consumers, but for creators who refuse to bow to the mob,” said Daily Wire co-founder Shapiro.
“We’re eager to bring Gina’s talent to Americans who love her, and we’re just as eager to show Hollywood that if they want to keep cancelling those who think differently, they’ll just be helping us build the Xwing to take down their Death Star,” he added.
Carano’s controversial social media posts, described by Lucasfilm as “abhorrent”, saw her turfed from The Mandalorian by the studio and ditched by her agency UTA. The former MMA star and Deadpool actress played bounty hunter Cara Dune on the first two seasons of Lucasfilm and Disney+’s hit series.
The actress raised hell by sharing a TikTok post comparing the current divided political climate in the U.S. to Nazi Germany.
“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views,” she wrote.

Another photo on Carano’s Instagram story featured a person with several masks covering their face and head with the caption: “Meanwhile in California.”
Both posts were scrubbed from the actress’s Instagram yesterday, but others picked it up and reposted. The actress has previously courted controversy for posts about election fraud and gender pronouns.
Last month, we revealed that right wing site The Daily Wire acquired its first feature film, school shooter movie Run Hide Fight, produced by Dallas Sonnier under his Bonfire Legend banner. Daily Wire says the film drew more than 300,000 viewers during its three-hour live streamed premiere.
The new alliance with Carano raises the prospect of the Daily Wire’s film operation becoming a home for those going against the Hollywood grain in controversial ways. Not that Disney will be too worried about that, however.
Carano is represented by Scott Karp at The Syndicate.

And the plot thickens..........

Great news. Gina is not backing down from the cancel culture twitter pathological leftists.

She is indeed one strong woman.

But the reality is that this man suffers no consequences for a literal endorsement of violence. this is why i think her tweet is so important and true... because it is open season on the most vanilla of conservative options.
Is he employed anywhere?

You know how difficult it is to have a movie made in Hollywood?

Less than 1% of projects ever get made. So don't hold your breath.

Aside from the fact that she's already alienated a vast chunk of the potential audience, which just took her to less than 1% chance of a less than 1% chance. So it makes a good headline on your buddy Shapiro's blog, but it's almost certainly "all talk no action" - unless possibly it's going to be an ultra low budget internet only release. If you never hear of Gina Carano and her movie again, don't be surprised.

Good for her. Anything Star Wars post 1983 is rubbish anyway although The Force Awakens (2016) was good.

It's funny- people who actually have the freedom to tell people what they really think really bothers some people that they can- and especially when they do.

It's awesome when someone who thinks they have power and control over someone shows them they don't.
