I think he had mental issues for years, like depression now this. Great Rocker lots of musicians have issues.

Bruce Springsteen was arrested for a DWI months ago while at a park in his home state of New Jersey.

The incident took place in November at the Gateway National Recreation Area, a public affairs officer confirmed to Fox News on Wednesday.

"On November 14, 2020, Bruce Springsteen was arrested in Gateway National Recreation Area and received three citations; DWI, reckless driving, and consuming alcohol in a closed area," the statement reads.

The public affairs spokesperson added that Springsteen, 71, was "cooperative throughout the process."

According to TMZ, who first reported the arrest, Springsteen is expected to appear in a New Jersey court sometime within the next few weeks.

News of Springsteen's arrest comes just days after the musician starred in a Super Bowl ad for Jeep calling on Americans to "reunite" and find unity after a divisive year.

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN SAYS HE’LL BE 'ON THE NEXT PLANE' TO AUSTRALIA IF TRUMP WINS REELECTION

"There is a chapel in Kansas standing on the exact center of the lower 48," the "Born in the USA" singer begins the commercial. "It never closes. All are more than welcome to come meet here in the middle. It’s no secret that the middle has been a hard place to get to lately between red and blue, between servant and citizen, between our freedom and our fear."

He continues: "Now, fear has never been the best of who we are and as for freedom, it’s not the property of just the fortunate few. It belongs to us all. Whoever you are, wherever you’re from, it’s what connects us and we need that connection. We need the middle. We just have to remember the very soil we stand on is common ground. So we can get there. We can make it to the mountaintop. Through the desert. And we will cross this divide. Our light has always found its way through the darkness. And there’s hope. On the road. Up ahead."

The singer’s calls for unity are in somewhat stark contrast to the language he was using prior to the 2020 presidential election, offhandedly saying that he would have moved to Australia had former President Trump won a second term in office.

Prior to Halloween in October, the musician presented another spoken-word poem on his "From My Home to Yours'' radio show that he shared on Twitter. In it, he called for an "exorcism" in the capital, referencing the need to remove Trump and those who support him from office.

"It is time for an exorcism in our nation’s capital," he begins. "Welcome to our Halloween/Election Day monster mash. This is Vol. 14 of ‘From My Home to Yours’ titled ‘Farewell to the Thief.’ In just a few days, we’ll be throwing the bums out. I thought it was a f---ing nightmare but it was so true."

Was never a fan of his music.

And what is it with celebrities, especially has-beens who threaten to "move out of the country" if Trump was to win? I would rather they threaten to hang themselves and save some other country from listening to their self serving bullshit.

Lifelong fan of Bruce, Ive attended several of his concerts. I also know where he lives, pass by it to visit my NJ family...he certainly went out of his way to be stupid.

Let's look at what FoxNews isn't saying. Bruce likes to do impromptu bar gigs in his native State, he's been doing them for decades. The Gateway National Recreation Area is different, when he does a bar gig in that township it's for charity. Bruce likes to drink, I'm sure the patrons send him drinks while he performs. Usually the bar takes the proceeds from the appearance, he's almost never paid. Bruce has been a working drunk for a long time but getting caught in that township I find sad. He was doing a charity gig in Sandy Hook.

On his music, I'm ambivalent. I don't own a single album he's ever made, but I won't change the channel when it comes on the radio and some of his stuff is pretty good.

That said, I am aware that he has faced a lot of personal issues over the years. He's been very honest about his struggles with depression and his personal experiences he's not proud of. Obviously, I don't know him other than what is out there about him. His public persona. What I do know and read about him, I respect.

The thing about driving under the influence, its for sure this isn't the first time he's done it. It's the first time he's been caught. That's not good.

I suspect, though I hope I'm wrong, that he continues to struggle with depression and other mental health issues. That concerns me because as I said, I respect him and I view him as "a good guy". I take no joy from this news. If he is indeed fighting demons, I wish him well in his fight. The world is a better place with Bruce than without.

I kinda wonder if the PD's in Jersey have always given him a hall pass when he's driven drunk before. I know I would if I was a cop.

Maybe this time he ran into a rookie who didn't have any idea who he was, or a prick.

I like Springsteen, he's done lots of charity work. But there is no excuse for him drunk driving and putting his life and other peoples life in danger.

Of course that's what I said at the start.

Springsteen has issues, his drinking could be driven by his guilt. He came of age during the worst of the Vietnam War, he was lucky enough not to get drafted. He saw what it did to those in his neighbourhood and it affected him. My cousin is three months younger than Bruce, he didn't have a choice. Bruce was born in Long Branch, north of Asbury Park, the Blue Collar part of Jersey Shore. He was free to develop his artistry while his neighbours took on the Viet Cong.

Perhaps the most haunting song he ever wrote - the B-side to Dancing in the Dark....one big reason why I can't stand Tommy Boy Cruise.

I like some of his songs. Philadelphia. great video. really captured the depression. Jungle Land. Tunnel of Love. I saw him in 1977 at Seneca College. Great concert. Maple Leaf Gardens, a couple of years later. However, I am not a big fan. I kind of take the Todd Rundgren point of view on him. What is amazing is that with the decades of 3 hour concerts under his belt he still has the time and the interest to grace local bars with impromptu free concerts. You would think that even he would be bored with his music after that much time.

He did his fundraising in Sandy Hook NJ, I don't know if he ever did a show in Sandy Hook Conneticut.

I saw one of his bar shows in Shark River Hills NJ, the area is now infamous for Jersey Shore. He featured songs from Nebraska which came out sometime later that year. He didn't pass up many drinks, he has a high tolerance for booze. If I drank that much I'd be dead from the knees down. Like I said, Sandy Hook Township is the worst place for him to finally get caught.

Everybody's favorite pucurone....maybe I shoudn't call him that, it's an insult to donkeys.

I never understood his appeal. A bunch of boring songs without a hook. Maybe it's the image?

I once heard him say, (something to the effect of) he'd rather just keep playing music than go home. Sitting around at home lets the depression sink in and take hold. Playing music is his escape.

He writes songs about the common working class/blue clue collar man in which most people can relate to.
A lot of his songs are catchy, definitely not boring.

With regard to his DWI arrest, I found these interesting talking points.

  • Springsteen was arrested on November 14, 2020 in Sandy Hook, New Jersey
  • He allegedly pulled over to take a photo with fans and accepted a shot of tequila from one of them in view of police
  • Springsteen's blood-alcohol content was 0.02 — a quarter of New Jersey's legal limit of 0.08
  • He was charged with DWI, reckless driving and consuming alcohol in a closed area at Gateway National Recreation Area
  • The website for the Gateway National Recreation Area says that alcoholic beverages at Sandy Hook are prohibited
  • Jeep has pulled its recent Super Bowl commercial from its social media accounts
  • Springsteen and his representatives have yet to comment on the arrest
I guess we'll have to see how this plays out and see what his actual blood-alcohol was. That should come out in the trial. If he did in fact stop to take a photo with a fan, do a shot, then immediately after get pulled over. It's entirely possible the residual alcohol in his mouth increased the initial roadside reading, but the one they gave him at the had a lower reading.
