Ceiling Cat is that you?
Unlike the famed Harry S. Miller song, this cat didn’t come back the very next day.
That’s because he was stuck hiding in the ceiling at New York’s LaGuardia Airport.
Now how did the cat get in the ceiling?
According to the New York Post, Taylor Le was in the midst of moving from New York to Orange County, Calif., when she booked a flight on Christmas Eve for herself and Muji, her six-year-old cat.
While at a security checkpoint, TSA agents had removed Muji from her pet carrier. That’s when the feline panicked and fled, prompting a chase by Le and airport staff.
“I said, ‘She’s gonna run. Do I have to take her out?’” Le told the Post. “We walked through the metal detector and she got spooked, bit me, freaked out and ran off.”
The cat ended up climbing some platforms leading to a ceiling enclosure and hid.
Le wrote about Muji’s disappearance on Facebook, which gained the attention of Queens Lost & Found Pets along with pet flying advocacy group Where Is Jack? Inc., who arranged for a tracking dog to help Le find Muji at the airport.
Abby the golden retriever was able to sniff out Muji, who was still stuck in the ceiling. Upon learning this, Le caught a flight back to the Big Apple.
The woman first tried to lure Muji from the ceiling but was unsuccessful. However, 11 days after the cat first fled, Le learned Muji appeared safely and was caught in a trap.
“I started crying,” Le said. “It was a miracle.”
According to Le, the cat was taken to a Long Island-based animal hospital for a check-up before being reunited with her. The cat and her owner returned to California this past Saturday.
