It was originally recorded by John Lee Hooker, who I had seen at the old Colonial Tavern. on Yonge Street. Thorogood's cover was as good as the original IMO.
One of the earliest live shows I ever saw, they opened for Bachmann-Turner Overdrive. Even in Wolverhapton that ubiquitous Verdi tune shows up. BTO/Slade: Not Fragile Tour.

I still remember that ML Gardens show, both Slade and BTO put on a good show. I bought the Slade Live album afterwards, John Sebastian cover.

Where I live, London, I seen Slade as the back up band to Johnny Winter...one of the loudest shows I've been too.
Don't know if this is Johnny Winter's first album. Willie Dixon was part of the recording sessions and wrote this song.
