Obviously, New Year's Eve is going to be quiet this year. But even pre-covid I never really understood the point of it. It seemed like just an excuse to get drunk. What exactly are we celebrating as the calendar turns over to January?
Exactly. Who's complaining? It seemed like just an excuse to get drunk.
Why would anybody complain about a day with extra pay/time off with pay etc...there is no down side.Calling any holiday dumbest is dumb.
Every holiday is just a day. What it means to an individual will vary based on nationality, race, creed, upbringing, traditions etc.

I can celebrate 11:59-12:00 any day of the weekObviously, New Year's Eve is going to be quiet this year. But even pre-covid I never really understood the point of it. It seemed like just an excuse to get drunk. What exactly are we celebrating as the calendar turns over to January?
A day is just an arbitrary and relative sequence of time that we invented. For whatever reason, we decided to structure time in a repeating pattern even though there's no logical reason for doing it. The only reason we celebrate anniversaries, birthdays, holidays, etc. is to remind ourselves of the passage of time.Calling any holiday dumbest is dumb.

I am not Asian but find myself following the Chinese New year more. Since following a Lunar Calendar was more commonplace in Ancient times before the Romans. Also that's when I find the real theme of the year takes place.I like Chinese New Year's better.
